Grace Lyrics
Broken, Bones and the will.
Capacity to disappear in misery saves.
Soaking, Pain as a thrill, Hate to instill.
Compassion's a cage.
Forgiving the father.
Read the story on my skin.
I'll be the martyr.
Falling from his grace again.
Sunken, sooner or later.
We crawl our way back into our favorite hole.
Drunken, swallow the savior,
And follow him to hang him from the highest pole.
Forgiving the father.
Read the story on my skin,
Tell me more about the man I should have been.
I'll be the martyr.
Falling from his grace again.
This is where the end begins.
The end begins.
Falling from his grace again,
falling from his grace again,
this is where the end begins.
Capacity to disappear in misery saves.
Soaking, Pain as a thrill, Hate to instill.
Compassion's a cage.
Read the story on my skin.
I'll be the martyr.
Falling from his grace again.
We crawl our way back into our favorite hole.
Drunken, swallow the savior,
And follow him to hang him from the highest pole.
Read the story on my skin,
Tell me more about the man I should have been.
I'll be the martyr.
Falling from his grace again.
falling from his grace again,

@Forrix: Not to be genre-bitching, since discussions like that useally don't have any effect, but Lamb of God isn't to be compared with metalcore bands, they stand far above that.
I completely agree. Metalcore are bands like Devil Wears Prada and All That Remains. The bands that go to Warped Tour and such. Lamb of God is PURE AMERICAN METAL.

fucking awesome song, the whole album kicks the shit out of most of those crappy generic metalcore bands
I dont understand how this song doesnt have more written about it. to me it is a top 5 metal song ever. quick emphasis, i said for me its a top 5.
as far as the meaning, Ive pondered it a while and i was hoping someone would post their interpretation on here so i could compare what I thought to them, but no one has so here goes.
I think its a song about and abusive parent, most likely a father.
Broken, Bones and the will. Capacity to disappear in misery saves. ~being beaten by the father and hiding within oneself misery to escape from the pain
Soaking, Pain as a thrill, Hate to instill. Compassion's a cage. ~the father basically gettin his rocks off, inflicting pain is a thrill, he instills the hatred and by showing compassion tot he child he'd be weak
Sunken, sooner or later. We crawl our way back into our favorite hole ~again, hiding within oneself to escape the torture
Drunken, swallow the savior, And follow him to hang him from the highest pole. ~i got nothing on this verse, perhaps turning away from faith? sort of a "how does God or a god let this happen to me?
Forgiving the father. Read the story on my skin, Tell me more about the man I should have been. I'll be the martyr. Falling from his grace again. ~forgiving the Father (God?) for the beatings. the story is the scars from the beatings. The father beats him because the son isnt what the father wanted, gay or something> who knows.
i could be misinterpreting what a martyr is, however, to me this sounds like he's taking the fall from His grace, condemning himself to hell and is going to kill the father. freeing himself and others, siblings perhaps, from the fathers abuse?
i'm not sure, this is the best i could come up with, hopefully its a starting point and some others can jump on and throw in their two cents. its a phenomenal song and i believe it has a very deep meaning and im betting im not even close to what it is or maybe just scratching the surface. LOG kicks ass

Disclaimer... I use the term "religion" loosely, and in no way mean any religion other than Christianity and anything that comprosises said idea.
I think the lyrics are a statement not so much against religion, but on religion. For example:
Broken, Bones and the will. Capacity to disappear in misery saves.
Soaking, Pain as a thrill, Hate to instill. Compassion's a cage.
Sunken, sooner or later. We crawl our way back into our favorite hole.
Drunken, swallow the savior, And follow him to hang him from the highest pole.
Forgiving the father. Read the story on my skin, Tell me more about the man I should have been. I'll be the martyr. Falling from his grace again.
This is where the end begins.
Just my two cents.

''Soaking, Pain as a thrill, Hate to instill. Compassion's a cage.

Possible reference to fanatics who are "thrilled" by strikes (thus, inflicted pain) against their belief's "enemies." "Hate to instill" could be taken as a somewhat negative view on religions and their self-empowering goals. Their compassion for religion may be a reference to the objective "blindness" of religious followers.'' To me that speaks more of self-inflicted pain in the name of religion and "Compassion's a cage" meaning to have so much "Compassion" (somewhat of a euphemism) for a religion (probably Christianity because of the pain inflicted on Jesus before his death)...

To me that speaks more of self-inflicted pain in the name of religion and "Compassion's a cage" meaning to have so much "Compassion" (somewhat of a euphemism) for a religion (probably Christianity because of the pain inflicted on Jesus before his death) that they inflict pain upon themselves it is a cage in a way making it hard to do normal things like get a job or have friends.
Definitely one of the best individual pieces on the album. A good single. I like that it has a few different parts to it, a blistering guitar solo at 2:40, and an absolutely hellish scream from 3:23 to 3:29. Crazy instrumentation.
this song is absolutely fuking amazing the solo is fuking insane!
definitely one of my top three from wrath, i don't really know what the hell it's about but i know it kicks fuckin ass overall
This song is incredible, from begining to the end. Easily my favorite along side of broken hands, and dead seeds. Kudos log
although i agree with the above (TrialAndError), the fall from grace biblicly speaking is the fall of lucifer. lucifer fell as a result of questioning gods will. lucifer was punished by eternal dammnation
if you put this into TrialAndError's interpretation it would mean that even though you folowed gods words youd still Fall from grace after a single sin
ok so first off this song kicks the shit outta any song out there right from the acusitc entrance all the way to the last riff played in the song, lamb of god is truely the leader of metal and shall stay there for a VERY long time
as for the meaning is that randy is fed up with all the bullshit in life and is tired of never meeting the standards of some form of higher power like his father, and he says it shows everyday just by looking at him, not meaning like he has scars but that hes getting older, weary etc and it could also have a few scars invovled, but the jist of it is its about hsi failurs in life and how he just keeps trying but its catching up on him
