Body of Years Lyrics
Take my eyes, take them aside
Take my face, and desecrate
My arms and legs
They get in the way
And take my hands, they'll understand
Take my heart, pull it apart
And take my brain, or what remains
And throw it all away
'Cause I've grown tired of this body
A cumbersome and heavy body
Take my lungs, take them and run
Take my tongue, go have some fun
And take the ears, take them and disappear
And take my joints, take them for points
Take my teeth, tear through my cheeks
And take the nose go and dispose
Oh would you go dispose, just go dispose
'Cause I've grown tired of this body
A cumbersome and heavy body
I've grown tired of this body
Fall apart without me body
Take my (eyes)
Take them (aside)
Take my (face)

Taking a trip through the halls of his memory, he can look back on the time he's spent in a place, where he sometimes wishes he can forget. And sometimes he does forget, with limited success "can't stop trippin' on these old roads" "like a pile of shit I can't seem to forget." Once you go through a dark valley of your life, you're grateful for what it's made you. But you can't live there anymore, because it's not healthy, and those relationships you forged are now counterfeit, even though they once meant the world to you. So, to survive, you've gotta cut ties with your past, those relationships, who you used to be, and move forward with who you know you should be now. But every once in a while, it's okay to visit the old bones, and dust them off to remember and indulge in those memories. But they still hurt, they still wound, and you can't spend too much time with them.
This song is amazing!
This song seems to me as though it's someone looking back in their past at relationships with people they knew, and no longer associate, or have lost touch with, it's all very much a part of who this person is, but they are no longer around.
Fantastic song. It's so so so so so catchy.
