Good Eye Lyrics
I was standing by the river where the cold black water run
I was standing by the river where the cold black water run
I had my good eye to the dark and my blind eye to the sun
I had all earthly riches
I had each and every one
I had all earthly riches
I had each and every one
I had my good eye to the dark and my blind eye to the sun
Well I swore to you my darlin', that you were the only one
Yes I swore to you my darlin', that you were the only one
I had my good eye to the dark and my blind eye to the sun
I was standing by the river where the cold black water run
I had my good eye to the dark and my blind eye to the sun
I had each and every one
I had all earthly riches
I had each and every one
I had my good eye to the dark and my blind eye to the sun
Yes I swore to you my darlin', that you were the only one
I had my good eye to the dark and my blind eye to the sun

I have been a critic of how they distorted voice in the past (he's got a good voice, why mess with it??), like in Night With a Jersey Devil, but it has grown on me a bit...because of the nature of this song. It's a nice little bluesy song so the distorted voice sorta works and gives it that "rough around the edges" type feel. I like how his voice just like runs off like in pain when saying the word, "run", like he's desperate for something. One of my favorite lyrics from this album: "I had my good eye to the dark and my blind eye to the sun".
He used that voice distortion live during the Magic tour when singing 'Reason to Believe'. He ends the song almost preaching out the line 'at the end of every hard working day people find some reason to believe'. It sounds like it's being delivered from a crackling / broken radio and the impact was immense.
This bloke could sing though a bath tub and it would sound great.
good song too - love his take on the blues.
