Mystery of You Lyrics
You always said we'd meet again
You always said you'd be here
You touch the deepest part of me
The places I could not save
Just tell me why I'm so dark inside
Somewhere, I will find
All the pieces torn apart, you just left behind
In your mystery
Somewhere I will see
All you taken from me
All you kept deep inside
In the mystery of you!
The mystery of you!
It's obvious you understand the blood that on my hands
I'm paralyzed, I can't escape
Until I see your face
You're all I know
Somewhere, I will find
All the pieces torn apart, you just left behind
In your mystery
Somewhere I will see
All you taken from me
All you kept deep inside
In the mystery of you!
The mystery of you!
You're all I know
You're all I know oh, oh, oh
Don't go oh, oh, oh
Don't go oh, oh, oh
Somewhere, I will find
All the pieces torn apart, you filled me deep inside
The mystery of you
Somewhere
Somewhere
The mysteries of you
Somewhere
You always said you'd be here
The places I could not save
Just tell me why I'm so dark inside
All the pieces torn apart, you just left behind
In your mystery
All you taken from me
All you kept deep inside
The mystery of you!
I'm paralyzed, I can't escape
Until I see your face

This is what it says on Jesusfreakhideout.com about this song: Behind the Song: “Mystery of You” examines an emotionally war-torn soul looking for answers. Over a stream of loops and keys, singer Michael Barnes pines, “You always said you'd be here/Where are you now?” and the sobering “Don't leave me all alone.” With its deep melodies and climactic chorus, “Mystery of You” is ultimately less about the fear of being alone and more about recognizing that some mysteries can only be revealed beyond this life. You know I completely understand how people will use the actual meaning of this song to describe it. But as I recall music speaks to everyone in their own way, and music is made to be interpreted from their own inner feelings.
It's honestly really rude to tell someone that the way they feel about how a song speaks to them is wrong. Because it's really not. It's how the song speaks to them.
Keep feeling people!
Plums sorry it most definitely not is about a girl, you can interpret it that way go ahead, but I'm sure Red would sing about more important things about this especially on this album.
Anyway I absolutely like this song! It's so amazing because, I don't think, it's talking about God leaving us. I believe it's talking about the mystery of Him. How amazing is that? If we had a God whom we would know everything about why worship Him? If we could figure God out there honestly wouldn't be any point to listening to Him because we, essentially, would know everything God knows.
"Somewhere I will find all the pieces torn apart You just left behind in your mystery"
Look at it this way: why do we study Scripture? To know God better, and through that to have a more intimate and deep relationship with Christ. As for the "torn apart" bit I'm not entirely sure why the singer would say that. Maybe he's referring to the mystery as pieces, like a puzzle possibly, that are torn apart. I say this because the next line("You just left behind in your mystery") I always think of when Jesus ascended into Heaven. He left us behind, and so He gave us the Councillor (the Holy Spirit) to guide us, and the Holy Spirit is such a mystery.
In this book called "The Shack" the author refers to the Holy Spirit as "working in mysterious ways". It's a great book, it is a work of fiction, but I believe some things in it can be linked to Scripture. It's an amazing read, and it is quick as well!
Forgiven123, it is true that He makes himself distant and mysterious. He seems that way because all of His actions He has done in your life are beyond our understanding.
Forgiven123, it is true that He makes himself distant and mysterious. He seems that way because all of His actions He has done in your life are beyond our understanding.
The intro/verse 1 is easy to interpret.
"You always said we'd meet again You always said you'd be here"
The first line means that when you left the Lord, He said you would meet again. You believe, from that, that He left you, which explains the second line. You think He left you that "last" time He spoke to you. But, the reality, is that you are the one who left Him.
"You touch the deepest part of me The places I could not save Just tell me why I'm so dark inside"
Jesus touches the deepest part of you, to feel your pain. He does this to know how to save you from it because you cannot do it yourself. And you expect to just know the answer to the problems as soon as you ask Him for the answers. When you usually don't hear anything, you often say, "The Lord is not with me! He has not told me what to do to get rid of this darkness! He must have left me!" That is an issue today. People believe that when you cannot hear anything, the Lord is not there! But, as a matter of fact, He IS with you! He just leads you onto the path of recovery without us knowing. This path can be as long as He wants. That is what leads to one of the mysteries: of not knowing that His work is happening right now.
The understanding of the chorus is hard to see, but must be seen from a different perspective.
"Somewhere, I will find All the pieces torn apart, you just left behind In your mystery
Somewhere I will see All you taken from me All you kept deep inside
Inside the mystery of you![...]"
You must understand, that what we see as "pieces torn apart" that our Lord Jesus and God Almighty "left behind" are actually works of His that are meant to test and strengthen you! Satan often depicts the lie, "Where is your 'God' now? Look at what He tore apart from you He doesn't love you!" But, the truth is that He is with you! All this "despair" and "brokenness" are just works of God to bring you closer to Him! How glorious! He makes something of "evil" and creates it to benefit you! That is the mystery of Him! You cannot entirely solve what the meaning of all the pieces that were torn apart, or of all that was taken from you. Just know, that all that He has torn apart and stolen from you, was for a purpose: to come back to Him. Because, when you run back to Jesus (the "somewhere [you] will find"), you will find all that is lost is now found, all that is torn is now whole, and you, as well, are now full of light! How great is our God and Savior!
"It's obvious you understand the blood that on my hands I'm paralyzed, I can't escape Until I see your face You're all I know"
The "blood" on your hands is the sins you have committed. It is true that they can paralyze you, and chain you down, saying that you can't escape! But, when you see His face, you are saved from your sins through His Blood. But, to cleanse you of the chains that bound you to your sinful nature, the work though the Cross must believed. I am reading a book by Watchman Nee called "The Normal Christian Life". I am saying what he says in his book. In order to be rid of your old man, your man of sin, you must die through Christ. This doesn't mean crucifying yourself (although it is physically impossible). It means that you must believe that Christ died on the cross. Also, that Christ abides in you, and you in him. John 15:4 says "Abide in me, and I in you." This is evidence that you, your old man (of sin), died on the Cross with Jesus, just as He died with you. Also, believe that you have be resurrected with Jesus as a new man, free of sin! That is why, unless you see His face and the truth in His word, you cannot be freed from the chains. But, just because you haven't seen His face, you are still cleansed of your sins, but sin is still in your nature, keeping you down. Also, He is "all [you] know". Material possessions cannot, and can never, save you from your pain and darkness. Most of the time, they worsen your condition by adding more weight on you! Even though it gives of a "feeling" of "happiness", it will not last eternally. Only through Him can you has eternal life and happiness! Although some do not see or believe that Christ is the source of new life, He will unlock their chains as well. For it is written in Romans 14:11, "For it is written: As I live, says the Lord, EVERY KNEE will bow to Me, and EVERY TONGUE will give praise to God."
Some may say that only believers of Christ will join Him, and those who don't will be sent to hell (theses people will use the verse John 3:16 to back this up). For one, "hell" in the Bible is the literal translation for the word that was used in the original Greek text (but that is a long and a different story). And, two, although people use the verse John 3:16, they usually stop reading there! Whenever my dad is criticized for believing this way, people say for him to read John 3:16. But, they overlook one thing. Although it says "...so that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish", many depict this as saying that non-believers will go to hell. But it does not say that! (If you don't believe me and want to prove me wrong, reply to this and show me proof.) For those who say that those who do not believe will go to hell, they usually do not read past, or skip, the next verse, John 3:17. It says: "For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him." The world might be saved. The WORLD, not just the believers, but the whole entire world and those in it! And, also, why would God, the One of love and peace and light, send his children into a place of hate and hurt and violence and darkness, or "hell"? See how contradicting it is? It either shows that God is a loving god towards His children, or is a god of punishment and despair. And, if Jesus, who conquered the sin of all, could not save even a single person from "going to hell" because of their actions, wouldn't that show that His work was in vain and false? Wouldn't that make you feel that you serve a false savior and a false god? See how the beliefs of some Christians contradict with the Truth, the Word of God! The Truth is this: Everyone, believers and non-believers, shall confess that God is Lord and Christ Jesus is Savior.
Ilrath, Jesus did come as you quoted so "the world MIGHT be saved". Salvation IS available to everyone BUT only if they accept that gift. God will send people to a place of "hate and hurt and violence and darkness" as you put it because that is what is within their hearts and this is not compatible with the "peace and love and light" of God. Jesus' blood was shed to cleans this from us all but if people do not accept it they are not cleansed. There is no contradiction nor is there any restriction on the power of...

Jesus' blood was shed to cleans this from us all but if people do not accept it they are not cleansed. There is no contradiction nor is there any restriction on the power of Jesus' blood as it can save ANY who accept it's power. Jesus died for us and was cut off from God (Love) for us (because God being Holy could not accept such sin) and went to hell for us. If then God decided to let everyone off the hook anyway this sacrifice would have been in vain and therefore a contradiction. God has given us that free will to accept Jesus' sacrifice or not. We are not controlled robots. Yes, all will confess that actually God is Lord and Christ Jesus is Saviour whether they did before or not but for those that did not it will be too late. If you are in court for a serious crime you are not let if you confess.
@ ren7uk That is the most decent comment I have read on this site!

I'm amazed that you were 15 when writing this. You are destined for greatness in Him.

um why has no one commented on this awesome song... lame-a-beans.
this is an amazing song. and i definitely love the new CD
I think that hes talking about a relationship with a girl i would guess, and they have had a falling out or they have broken up, because of something they both did, and hes saying that she confuses him but no matter what hes gonna try and fix it.... least thats my take on it. laters
Maybe it's about the mysterious way in which God can show up and leave in someone's life. That is, sometimes it seems like God is there for you and blessing you, while other times (when life is dark) it seems like God has almost abandoned you.
God is always there even in those dark times. It is Satan who is able to creep in and deceive us allowing us to think we are all alone. It is our human nature to believe the only time God is in our life is when everything is running smoothly like we like it. But that's the exact problem. We start with ourself first. Once you completly give yourself to Him, you then begin to understand that there will be bumps and bruises in your life, but know you have Christ in you and know that Satan is after you...

My whole point is God does not enter our life sometimes and leave it sometimes. He created us along with the whole universe. His time is eternity.... He is always here.
Yes, well said. I agree. I meant to say in the first line "Maybe it's about the mysterious way in which God can seem to show up and leave...". I didn't mean to imply that He actually does so. Good catch. Now that you drew that point out, the first line of the song doesn't match up with my interpretation...hmm...

I have a couple ideas: 1. Mabey he is tlaking about sin or some addiction. Sin or the Devil/sin/addiction is to an extent a Mystery and how we keep returning to it. And it does touch a very ddep part of peoples lives. Or 2. It is as the above has said, he is speaking of the "Dark Night" of the soul. Or 2. It is as the above has said, he is speaking of the "Dark Night" of the soul. God allows us to go though Dark Nights in order to help us grow more in the Spiritual life. He does not leav us, but allows us to feel great darkness in order to bring about death to the world and life to him. Like the line,"Somewhere I will find all the pieces torn apart, You just left behind in your mystery. Somewhere I will see all youve taken from me" The Dark night can FEEL as though somthing has been taken, aka our worldliness. Then he says," All you kept deep inside, in the mystery of you" Meaning God still keeps much inside of said person ( I would argue he give more than he takes). It seems a contradiction, which is why it is a Mystery. Just my thoughts
Bodenhammer, in the most respectful way possible your first idea of it being about the devil or sin or addiction is wrong. This is why:

Jesus said that He would return again, He also said that He would always be with us. So the concept of the devil being with us is impossible because he can not be in two places at once. As far as sin goes just looking at those two lines have a possibility to be about it, but the rest of the song nullifies that idea. Addiction, well that is generally a sin; addiction to drugs, alcohol, women.
However you had an interesting point when you say it touches a deep part of us. The only reason it would touch us deeply is if we hide our sin. If we do hide it, then yes is becomes very much personal. But we should bring our filth to the light and have it be revealed so that it may not have a stronghold!
Psalm 32:3 says:
"When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long"
When we keep silent about our sins, usually privacy and silence has a strong link to pornography and masturbation, it destroys us. I know that when I did struggle with porn it ate at me physically I couldn't bear to look at myself in the mirror and life was awful. Then I confessed and had a sort of accountability/life group thing at my church and I just mentioned it one day and it eventually got better.
ahhhh such a sad song
I think this song means that the guy in the relationship has gone out with this girl, and thought he knew her well, but when they break up he realizes that he didn't know her at all. and is wondering how she could do this [breakup] to him. so if he REALLY knew her then he wouldn't wonder how she could do this to him.
amazing song. "You're all I know You're all I know
Don't go Don't go" is the best part. i can rewind it over and over, just when that background sings "ohhhh"
