I think this song is about either the narrator gave a child up for adoption, or someone close to her gave a child up for adoption. She's saying the child should grow up with a strong heartbeat, and maybe she couldn't give her that herself. It's probably the real mother because she is so concerned with the child's well being, as a mother would be.
