The Akara Lyrics

And so long, mistress sings
So long, I can't wait
Anymore
I'll wait no more

So long, mistress sings
So long, my fate has changed
It's been deranged

So long to these kite strings
So long, I've been saved
Before I'm saved once more

I call upon my daring
I call upon, I can't taste anymore
I can't waste anymore

Although the instrumental portion of this song is marked with kind of a melancholy tone to it, I personally can't connect the dots with the lyrics. To me, they don't point to anything sinister or sad. If anything, they simply portray a very realistic dialogue.

I think it's about a woman who decides to kill herself...saying "so long" and "wait no more"...and then the "I call upon my daring" 'n such. Great song! It's going to be stuck in my head for the next couple of weeks though @_@

@YouWillHearThunder I compeletly agree. Makes total sense.

This is definitely one of Beirut's best written songs yet. The instrumentation on this one works so well, the most enjoyable listen i've had of Beirut since Postcards to Italy.

You mean Postcards From Italy.

this song is amazing :) i don't know why, it has some kind of film noir-ish vibe to it. my favourite verses have to be "so long to these kite strings, i've been saved before, i'm saved once more". it's like everything i feel like doing at this moment. just fogetting all worries and live my life for a change. thanks to Zach Condon for writing this!

And also, I believe the first stanza goes: "So long, mistress sings, So long, I can't wait Anymore, I'll wait no more"

like, the mistress says she'll wait no more for her lover to leave his wife, so she's leaving him. at least that's what i understand...

I definitely agree with that. What you wrote is clearly the correct version of the lyrics.

The opening sounds like the score from Taxi. Amazing layering of vocals and instruments.
