Love the song and guitar but confused. "In the black books today" seems temporary, like in the dog house but leaving a loved one to grieve while baby looks for new eyes to put tears in is both (1) permanent and (2) a deeper offense that that which would put one in the black book. Also, if the hardest truths don't have a why then maybe there's no blame involved; hence no black booking. In other words everything fits except the title. Huh?
