Distant Doubloon Lyrics

Blind Pew he covers you with colours of the night you'll never meet him in the carnival. Taggada takes the Jakeys for a ride.
And Long John Silver is one of the few that Robbie Stevenson could champion even though the man was fake made up the kind you'd never expect to shoot one of their inmates.

The horizontal stripes will lead you to the west
The vertical hill town huns will leave you own back with your tannadiction chest.

The weakest character in this chapter loves dairy, shadows never shone.
I never met a pretty creature who would crumble at the outcome of a cow,
How come you would tell me farmers never bow.
Metaphors are easy just to talk about it, growing up with spacers I can live without

Fifteen holes is never worth a stolen bike just waiting for a different cunt to say what to write.
There will never be a colour in the sea if you don't have no eyes to see so please don't dwell upon your wooden leg, your limp is boring me.

You see your wallpaper was red polluted with lesbian green.
Red was never your colour it was never your team.
Blue it never even crossed your mind because you never flew a flight,
Golden treasure left you blind.

Fifteen holes is never worth a stolen bike your just waiting for a different cunt to say what to write.
There will never be a colour in the sea if you have not eyes to see.
So don't dwell upon your wooden leg, your fucking limp is boring me.

I don't know what anyone would mean by that tbh Becci. Kind of a controversial comment there?!

I'm pretty sure the song is actually called 'Distant Doubloon' not DOUBLOOM but I'd more or less go with lucee on this one because it kind of reminded me of the adventure in Treasure Island.

There could be some other meaning deeper than that but on the surface that's what it seems to be about.

'Metaphors are easy just to talk about it, growing up with spacers I can live without' that could possibly be a true and honest comment (maybe the song is a big metaphor) because there's always more to the story than it seems, even in fiction (sometimes it reflects the author's life).

I was thinking it could be about someone who's the puppet and someone else is pulling their strings. The storyteller and the characters - the characters do as they are told. Maybe they've become someone else they're not, almost dependent - 'so don't dwell upon your wooden leg'. 'Your fucking limp is boring me' -the fakeness within it all could have become tired and old that everyone can now see through it.

Just a brief thought, I'm not too sure if there's much to comment on or even a deeper meaning here! The View are unpredictable, it could have just stemmed from a mad night.

Anyway, I would have thought there would have been more comments, especially on more of the songs from the new album.

Didn't realize I'd put an 'm' instead of an 'n', so thanks for pointing that out.

i was maybe thinking that "There will never be a colour in the sea if you have not eyes to see" is, to go on with prettys idea, is like you need to look past to facade kinda thing. like there is the fakeness, and one can look but not see. like hearing without listening.

theres something in this about celtic and rangers the horizontal stripes lead you to the west and the vertical hill town huns dont know what it means but my mate was saying from uni 3 of them are celtic fans

hilltown is a place in dundee, and the hilltown huns are what you could call a gang in the hilltown, in dundee there is lots of them. horizontal stripes could be about celtic, but glasgow is SE from dundee

also the hilltown is on a hill, gives it away with the name, so vertical could be because of that

also the hilltown is on a hill, gives it away with the name, so vertical could be because of that

This song is based on comparing characters from Robet Louis Stevenson's 'Treasure Island' to people in Dundee. Horrizontal stripes and Hilltown Huns are about the gang in Dundee caled the Hilltown Huns. Tannadiction chest mentioned in the story is based on Tannadice Park, home of Dundee United.

Blind Pew is a character in the story. Taggada is a ride at the carnival Stolen Bike is about Kieren Webster getting his bike stolen in Dundee
