Little Bit of Red Lyrics
[Oh whoo]
Hey you, say you
Wanna start over again
Like I ever wanted it
To be any different
I've been watching all your colours fade
To blue
Said you'd come back
Like I wanted you, wanted you
Stop pretending everything's alright
Oh, baby blue, Oh baby blue
C'mere I'm gonna smear another colour over you
Get outta bed you little sleepy head
Your black and white needs a little bit of red,
Your black and white needs a little bit of red
[Ohh whooo]
Couldn't handle
Pressure life had put'chu through
Thought you mighta bit a litte more than you could chew
No, I don't believe it when you say,
I will make up to you.
Said you'd come back,
Didn't want you too, want you too.
Still pretending everything's alright
Oh, baby blue, Oh baby blue
C'mere I'm gonna smear another colour over you
Get outta bed you little sleepy head
Your black and white needs a little bit of red,
Your black and white needs a little bit of red
Baby blue, Baby blue
Oh, baby blue, Oh baby blue
C'mere I'm gonna smear another colour over you
Get outta bed you little sleepy head
Your black and white needs a little bit of red,
Oh, baby blue, Oh baby blue
C'mere I'm gonna smear another colour over you

I think this song pertains to Canadian Politics, since Serena herself is Canadian after all.... Baby Blue is referring to our Conservative Minority government lead by the ever so enraging Stephen Harper. Blue being the colour of the conservatives and baby blue possibly a reference to the characteristic blank blue eyes of our very own baby faced Harper. He wants to change Canada and make it all over again, but really that's not our Canada, do we really want the change he's bringing?
"I've been watching all your colours fade to blue" Canada is all about being eclectic and multinational. This is not a melting pot. But if harper gets his way, we become more like our US neighbour which he so revers. It's fine for the USA, but that's not canada. Also it could be refering to the bland-ness of the conservative party, conservative being the key here, so he's taken Canada and turned it into something thats boreing and not our true colour.
So the singer decides it's time for a wake up call: get out of bed and wake up... I'm gonna smear another colour over you. She throws it out there, red representing either the Liberal agenda or Canada itself.... both more exciting than the black and white Torry's where things are so cut and dry.
I also like the lines where she says "still pretending everything's alright" especially now that the government has been held in contempt and Harper seems to be just carrying on as though this is just A-okay.... "and no, I don't believe you when you say I will make it up to you." Harper came to my province making all kinds of promises and I gotta say, I'm not buying it either.
This is a very rushed interpretation, clearly, but i really think this is a slam against the conservatives here in Canada.
Fascinating interpretation mslillylee! Quite plausible.

That is definitely not the meaning. You may be surprised to find that not everyone has the same hateful view of the Conservative Party that you obviously do. So do us all a favour and don't attempt to stretch meanings in order to prove your extremist views of Canadian Politics. I guess Stephen Harper isn't such an "enraging" guy, considering he won the Majority Government in 2010 a whole year before you made this out of touch and obviously uninformed comment.

hmmmm swingdive88 ur closeee but i dont think thats quite wat the song means =/
i actually really like it its really catchy but not in an annoying way
i think its about a guy who broke up with her wen every thing was fine in his life but now that things are going bad for him and he's sad about it he's trying to get her back as if he never did anything wrong and everythings fine between them.
Oh, baby blue, Oh baby blue - (the upset guy obviously) C'mere I'm gonna smear another colour over you
Get outta bed you little sleepy head Your black and white needs a little bit of red, (shes pissed that he would try to come back like evertyhing is fine btween them so now she's letting him noe how angry nd hurt (little bit of red) he made her feel instead of the little black and white simple version he's trying to say happened)
Two women, one hiding her feelings, realizing that she wants what hse had to begin with. THe other woman is telling her that her feelings have never changed, so wipe that "blue" (sad/down) out of your life and paint another colour on you (make her happy again) It has nothing to do with anger or hurt, it has to do with a love that is so strong that time apart and relationships with others cannot break it.

Gotta say I agree more with paigebaby. I think its about a girl who is with a guy who used to be so vibrant and colorful. Now he is drowning in his own misery and everything that made him so bright and wonderful is fading. He is no longer himself anymore. And he is promising her that everything will go back to normal and he is gonna make it up to her. No matter how much he tells her this and wants this for himself for things to go back to the way they were she knows that they won't....

No matter how much he tells her this and wants this for himself for things to go back to the way they were she knows that they won't. So therefore she doesn't want him back. He is dull and lifeless now (black and white) and needs to perk up and come alive (needs a little bit of red)
I think the narrator is fed up with someone not taking risks, just settling for the same old routine. She wants more excitement, more colour. She doesn't like that her friend settles and says things are fine when they're really not.
I Hate this song. It is like my republican ex girlfriend is yelling at me. I always dress in bland colors and blue because it is suposto be a calming color, and I live in a blue state. Also i developed this germaphobia thing sinse I broke up with her and Ive been sleeping way too much to.
Color imagery does not have to be political, and I don't take this song as political at all. But even if it were, keep in mind that Serena Ryder is Canadian. In Canada, the red/blue political associations are reversed, red being associated with liberals and blue with conservatives.
