A Place to Hide Lyrics
Did I sit alone and ask about my future?
When you replied I just turned away
I've been searching through my books to try and find some truth
Perhaps disguised as a mysterious way
And if I made a promise, could I stay by your side?
Would you guarantee my safety?
And say that I'd be all right
But if Judgement Day started tonight
At least I'd know I was right and I'd be laughing at the end of the world
Take my hand tonight I'll think we'll be all right, girl
And I can see it on the TV
There's an air attack
People of the mountains, screaming "I'll be back!"
And I'm banging on your door
So come on and let me in!
Need a place to hide
I need a place to hide before the storm begins
If I told you all the times that I'd done wrong
Could you bathe my soul and wash it all away?
I can't forgive the things that I can still remember
So I think my friendly sins are here to stay
And I could make a promise
With a tear in my eye
And all the hope in my heart
But all the doubt in my mind
And if Judgement Day started tonight at least I'd know I was right
And I'd be laughing at the end of the world
Take my hand tonight I think we'll be all right, girl
And I can see it on the TV
There's an air attack
People on the mountains, screaming "I'll be back!"
And I'm banging on your door
So come on and let me in!
Need a place to hide
I need a place to hide before the storm begins
Before the storm begins

I think this song's incredible, only heard it for the first time yesterday. White Lies are amazing, seeing them on the 27th!
definitely a fave out of the album
In my opinion, this song is about a soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan who, through his fear has turned to religion and gone AWOL.
Did I sit alone and ask about my future? Praying to god When you replied I just turned away Losing Faith I've been searching through my books to try and find some truth Reading the Bible Perhaps disguised as a mysterious way Not understanding it
And if I made a promise, could I stay by your side? Swearing to god Would you guarantee my safety? Looking to god for safety And say that I'd be all right Looking for comfort from religion

Dont slate me if I am wrong or you dont agree, this is just my opinion Cheers
Though what you said seems plausible, i think it is more of a scuffle with a individual person. He did something terrible and wants forgiveness from his girlfriend/friends etc.

He's having problems in the relationship and seeing all the wars on the TV creates an analogy in how he feels
I get a picture of a people's fear of what was to come after September 11 2001, when Bush declared 'war' on terror, from the chorus at least. People turning to their friends, and the people they love, and banding together ('I'm banging on your door, so come on and let me in; I need a place to hide, need a place to hide before the storm begins' - 'the storm' is the war at home that some people might have expected) for some sort of sense of security when the war comes. As it happens, it wasn't nearly the war that people may have expected after Bush labelled 9/11 as an 'attack' on the US and blamed a specific country.
