Soil To The Sun Lyrics
In the depths of my mind I laid sleeping
Well I had such a dream when I woke I was weeping
The vision I saw danced around me
And my heart saw the things that my eyes couldn't see
Oh the sun crashed down to the ground
The moon rose up to the sky blood red
All the dead climbed up out from their graves
They fell to their knees as the stars started screaming
Come one, come all
Come see it, believe it
The truth will shine
If you open you eyes
And you'll see it move
As it moves on the masses
The weak will rise and give birth to the sky
And give birth to the sky
No it didn't stop there, it consumed me
And it crushed me with joy as its beauty swept through me
I was moved by the weight of it all
I've been touched by the light, yes I know what I saw
Oh the sun crashed down to the ground
The moon rose up to the sun blood red
All the dead climbed out from their graves
They fell to their knees as the stars started screaming
Come one, come all
Come see it, believe it
The truth will shine
If you open you eyes
And you'll see it move
As it moves on the masses
The weak will rise and give birth to the sky
And give birth to the sky
I saw the dreamers dreaming
I heard the people singing
The dinosaurs are dying
The mind control's subsiding
I saw a new path beaten
Free thinkers freely thinking
Can't stop a thought from breathing
It moves like fire
The sun crashed down to the ground
The moon rose up to the sky blood red
All the dead climbed up out from their graves
They fell to their knees as the stars started screaming
Come one, come all
Come see it, believe it
The truth will shine
If you open you eyes
And you'll see it move
As it moves on the masses
The weak will rise and give birth to the sky
And give birth to the sky

This song is about a dream--as he tells us from the outset--a dream that was so mystical and wondrous that he transcended time and space and entered a world much freer than anything consciously imaginable.
These lyrics are fantastic--I imagine melting clocks where the concept of TIME is nonexistent, somewhere in the great beyond--a dream world if you will, a place where there is no evil and money (synonym's) like in our fake little world.
Best Line ------> "The mind control's subsiding"
I think he doesn't like the way the world is so he's imagining it being recreated in a better way.
A lot of people are mentioning religion, and I guess that could be a part of this song, but I really think it has a broader meaning than that. The verses are pretty easy to understand; he has a vision that makes him excited. The chorus, however, is a little tricky. First, we have to think of the symbols: the sun, the moon, the stars, and the sky. Stars are a symbol of hope in the darkness, and the sky is a symbol of our beliefs, as it is all around us and is what we see whenever we look up. The moon doesn't seem to be a huge symbol, but it isn't a symbol of nighttime when everything is dark and you can now see what the sky really looks like. Almost like seeing the truth. The sun is a little more tricky. I refer back to the title of the song for this one. There are three distinct definitions of soil: dirt on the surface of the earth, a regional territory, and "to dirty or dishonor." We can assume that the correct definition in this case would be "to dishonor," as the sun is "crash[ing] down to the ground." I'll get back to this later. So, apparently something that we used to follow has been rebuked and dishonored. The moon rises, bringing the night, where we can see the truth of what the sun was hiding from us: a blood red sky. So, what we believed in was causing hatred and messing up the world. The dead is crawling out from their graves and falling to their knees. Falling to your knees is a sign of helplessness, sometimes begging for mercy. So, those who have left the world like this beg for mercy as the stars (the last hope) scream, "You know see the truth. The weak will rise and give birth to the sky!" This sentence means that those who used to be ridiculed for wanting to change the world will rise and create a new world, one filled with peace. The sun is something we always see. In this case, it has clouded the blood red sky from the people, just as it causes the sky to seem blue and hide the stars during the day. So, the sun must represent the sense of security we feel that clouds our visions from what is actually happening. It's like if you drink a lot and you let it slide because it makes you feel good, but in reality, you're messing up your body. As someone else mentioned, we can also tie these symbols in with the foretold signs of the Second Coming, which will bring a period of peace and prosperity on the Earth.
Additionally, the line "You'll see it move as it moves on the masses" means that the movement of peace will travel fast throughout the population of the world.

To anyone who has read the Bible, the motifs are very familiar. The falling sun or stars, the bloody moon, and the resurrection and judgment of the dead are all described in the context of the Last Judgment. This is the final event to happen before the earth and the universe are renewed.
However the key to this song is what is spoken of but never described. This is the second layer of the vision. Since it is a transcendent thing, only its effects can be described, not itself. Its effects on the world are the apocalyptic visions, and its effects on the dreamer come in the form of a consuming joy. It is described in the only way it can be described, as a "thought" that "breathes" and "moves like fire."
It is possible to see the effects in the first verse and not understand their cause. The dreamer, though, is one who understands. He sings "I've been touched by the light and I know what I saw." The transcendent is not a mere idea, like freedom, but a being compared with which everything else is reduced to nothing.
Or as the Bible puts it, "Our God is a consuming fire."
To me this song captures a political revolution or uprising of the weak against their oppressors via free thinking and the elimination of mind control techniques like the corporate media and TV. The awakening is on and the dead and downtrodden rise while the former stars of the Earth scream: The truth will shine If you open you eyes And you'll see it move As it moves on the masses The weak will rise and give birth to the sky
this song to me is about looking past religion and keep learning. the lines "I saw the demons dreaming I heard people singing The dinosaurs are dieing The mind control's subsiding
I saw a new path Free thinkers freely thinking Can't stop a thought from breathing It moves like fire"
clearly show his attitude towards religion. i think this message is about exploring our thoughts and thinking for our selves.
I agree, and think that you stated that quite reasonably. Therefore, I think that the fact that your comment had a net of two down-votes and was flagged, apparently, reveals the presence of some Cage the Elephants fans who are quite over-sensitive about their own religion and oblivious to the fact that CtE seem to quite often criticize religion.

Yes, it is certainly not about religion. It feels more like a political revolution or uprising of the weak against their oppressors via free thinking and the elimination of mind control techniques like the corporate media and TV.

@shakeandbake257 I see where you're coming from, but personally, I believe it has more to do with politics and our own choices rather than religion.
