You Were Good In Your Time Lyrics
Let the heart rest
Lay back your head
You were good in your time
and we thank you
You made me feel less alone
You made me feel not quite so
deformed, uninformed, and hunchbacked
Time takes all breath away
You were good in your time
and we thank you so
You said more in one day
than most people say
in a lifetime, it was our time
and we thank you
An end-of-the-ride sigh
Your soft smile says:
"Please understand, I must surrender."
Then you grip with your hand
now so small in mine
Are you aware wherever you are
that you have just died?
Lay back your head
You were good in your time
and we thank you
You made me feel less alone
You made me feel not quite so
deformed, uninformed, and hunchbacked
Time takes all breath away
You were good in your time
and we thank you so
You said more in one day
than most people say
in a lifetime, it was our time
and we thank you
An end-of-the-ride sigh
Your soft smile says:
"Please understand, I must surrender."
Then you grip with your hand
now so small in mine
Are you aware wherever you are
that you have just died?

Is he singing about himself?
If he is, he's the only artist in the universe who could get away with being so egotistical and self-deprecating at the same time. ;)

I think he's singing about his idols, but with a knowing wink of acknowledgement that the song might as well be about him.

or about Bowie?? ha ha,...
my god morrissey is gold.
it is definitely a reference to his idols. and I also feel it's about the smiths as well.
Well I though it might be about himself, when he's said that this probably will be his last album
about the smiths um NO
reminds me of my best friend, he moved to Utah..I love him so much.
you guys are all way off . morrissey is singing about someone, probably he knows personally, on their deathbed, and him being there with them at the very end when they pass. a very sad song really. ive recently been through this experience and it makes total sense now.
This Song Really Makes You Think.
these are the lyrics to 'It's Not Your Birthday Anymore,' not 'You Were Good in Your Time.'
I think, like 'Paint a Vulgar Picture,' 'You Were Good In Your Time' is both about someone Morrissey looked up to and about Morrissey himself.
