Hey Me, Hey Mama Lyrics

Papa's in the kitchen,
Mama's in the field,
Murder in the henhouse,
Mud flung high upon the wheels.

Rooster in the door yard,
Just leaning on the horn,
Wind sweetly drifting through that ripening corn.

Hey me, hey mama,
Where you been? For so long, for so long?
Hey, me, hey mama,
Where you been? Where you been for so long?

Something outrageous about that evening sky,
This side of dangerous, that look in your eyes.
Always knew you was crazy, always knew you could be cruel,
Still I would do just about anything in the world for you.

Hey me, hey mama,
Where you been? For so long, for so long?
Hey me, hey mama,
Where you been? Where you been for so long?

Left me standing in the corner with my hands a-hanging down,
Punch drunk, busted up and reeling like a rodeo clown,
Always seeemed to hit me like a lightning from above.
Guess I just wasn't ready for such a heavy handed love.

Hey me, hey mama,
Where you been? For so long, for so long?
Hey me, hey mama,
Where you been? Where you been for so long?

Hey me, hey mama,
Where you been? For so long, for so long?
Hey me, hey mama,
Where you been? Where you been for so long?

Growing up in a country, I'm guessing the song is simply a humorous recounting of being slapped around by his mom for not coming home on time (for dinner probably, probably also didn't do the chores, haha).

The last chorus is especially hilarious, the way the pitch of his voice rises to an almost wailing tone. XD Anticipating the beating.
