Is he saying "a compromise between what I want and need"? Instead of 'me'? That makes more sense, but I'm not going to decide on that yet... But it sounds like 'need'.
To me, this song is about him and a girl and him telling her that she's gorgeous, she's something he wants, but she may be bad for him... 'but I like the way you look, I just hate the way it hurts'...
Dunno. This song really means something to me because it reminds me of someone, but it's hard to put into words. A good song, none-the-less.

In the eyes of the man saying, he is possibly looking at another woman as a Goddess. Almost as if she is too good for him. Obviously he doesn't believe that she is around him in his life even though she is, and wishes he could do more for her. The lyrics also seem to say that she is in his life but not the way he wants, and that it hurts so bad that she is not.
