Villiers Terrace Lyrics

I've been up to Villiers Terrace
To see what's-a-happenin'
There's people rolling 'round on the carpet
Mixing up the medicine
I've been up to Villiers Terrace
I saw what's-a-happenin'
People rolling 'round on the carpet
Biting wool and pulling string
You said people rolled on carpet
But I never thought they'd do those things

I've been up to Villiers Terrace
I've been in a daze for days
I drank some of the medicine
And I didn't like the taste
I've been up to Villiers Terrace
I've been in a daze for days
People rolling 'round on your carpet
Biting wool and pulling string
You said people rolled on carpet
But I never thought they'd do those things

Been up to Villiers Terrace
To see what's-a-happenin'
There's people rolling 'round on the carpet
Passing 'round the medicine
Been up to Villiers Terrace
I saw what's-a-happenin'
People rolling 'round on my carpet
Biting wool and pulling string
You said people rolled on carpet, boys
But I never thought they'd do those things

Bop-showaddywaddy shake your money
(Been down to Villiers Terrace)
Bop-showaddywaddy shake your money
(Been down to Villiers Terrace)
Bop-showaddywaddy save your money
(Been down to Villiers Terrace)
Bop-showaddywaddy save your money
(Been down to Villiers Terrace)

AFAIK, this is about visiting a drug den, including imagery of the bizarre behavior of the folk who are high, tripping, or zoned out on illegal recreational drugs.

@lipslikesugarkisses: I think you’re getting 'Villiers Terrace’ mixed up with ‘All That Jazz’, both on the ‘Crocodiles’ album — it’s the latter that’s about the street-fighting lure of facism.

What?! No comments?! This is one of their best - IMHO. Great imagery in the lyrics.

This song makes me think of pickled onions.

I read the cover of Crocodiles, in which Ian Mcculloch explains what this song about. Basically, it's about the Nazis....I really wouldn't have guessed to be honest, but if that's what the artist says..!

Ian wrote this song after his brother told him Hitler would stress out and start munching on carpet. This was when Nazi Germany was going down the drain. So the song and lyrics are inspired by that imagery though I don't think the song is literally just about Hitler eating carpet. I think Ian did use that story and imagery to write about being at a party or place where people are freaking out and/or taking drugs.

@Jojododo yep, I believe there's a combination of both things, as u said! Totally agree...
