I believe that this song is about living in someones shadow for most of your life only to wake up one day and realize that you are a lie.

How this stanza is relevant is that you grow up being untrue to yourself always trying to please and impress another person and become someone your not. A guy can only be himself and you get progressively depressed.

So helpless I bleed Emptied nest of creativity The silence no longer my friend Or my seed

Of course you can never really win over this significant person because you are a lie and have no passion or confidence and are helpless because this is all you know. You feel as if you have been torn in two with a constant tug of war going on in your head and you feel empty because you hardly know yourself and your own skin feels almost alien.

Found myself holding on To something that was so untrue Trying to make up for all That was gone

You hold on to your old self because you think it may still be worth something and may be able to please the person because your relationship with them has deteriorated.

Reversing time and fighting the tide Impregnating fate with my pride I will not compromise

Start over. Rebuild yourself the way it was meant to be even though you may not always please the other person. You are the master of your own life.
