Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover)

i love alexandra- she totally deserved it!

Congratulations to Simon Cowell for fucking up a perfectly awesome song. Where is the emotion in her voice that Jeff Buckley and all the rest of the other cover artists have? Yeah she has a good voice, but you can tell she doesn't feel the song. Did I hear an orchestra build up in one part? What the fuck is that? The less instruments in the background the better, because then you can actually FEEL the emotion in the singers voice. This is shocking. So fucking commercial it makes me wanna spew.

What a shame that such a beautiful song was mutilated by Simon Cowell's little enterprise

Not that Alexandra doesn't have a wonderful voice, but this song is all wrong for an X Factor contestant

she has a good voice..but not for this song. it doesnt show the passion that jeff buckley showed when he sang it (his version, granted, was a cover, but he sang it so passionately and awesomely). her version absolutely murdered the song. i guess its not her fault as she only did what they told her. but even so, it doesnt stop this version from being...under par. especially compared to jeff's. although i dont think either version of the x-factor finalists deserved number 1...i actually preferred JLS's version more.

although one good thing came of all of this...Jeff himself got to number 2 which in turn will give it more air time etc and people will hear this master piece how it should be heard and for what it truely is. her version couldve been worse tho.

Here's the thing: Alexandra Burke has a beautiful voice and all, but this version is WAAAAAAY overproduced. If someone had heard her song and never heard any other version, they would think it's pretty and all but forget about it. I compared it to Jeff Buckley's version, and couldn't believe how much better his was. She has the voice for the song, it's just she didn't put enough emotion into it and the ridiculous orchestra that comes in at the end is so cliche it isn't even funny. Quite honestly I'd take the original (Leonard Cohen, who wrote the song but who's voice isn't that great) over hers any day. I'm not saying her version is bad, I'm just saying it's BORING.

Although, I do prefer her version to Bob Dylan's. Although I adore pretty much every one of Bob Dylan's songs and covers, I hate his version of this song.

Alexandra Burkes voice is a good one, yes, but that doesn't give her an exuse to turn a quiet, peacefull, if i didn't know better I'd say was perfect song that was sung with so much emotion by Jeff Buckley into something that is sung to make money, sung to show off, sung to make herself win something, instead of something to feel at one with the world.

Alexandra has the most amazing singing voice but only for certain songs, like Listen - her version of that is of the hook when she sang with beyonce but her voice is not a good suit for this style of song.

Such a beautiful and deservant winner.

The Biblical words used in this song are all metaphors and symbolism. Plus, Leonard Cohen who originally wrote this song is a Buddhist, not a Christian.

The other person doesn’t understand his/her passion in music and what she/he’s doing with his/her creativity. That’s why the line is there, “But you don’t really care for music, do you?”. It amuses the Lord (someone else) but the other person that the singer is talking to is not amused (or doesn’t understand).

There were two events happening here, the minor fall and major lift describe the evolution of the person saying. Hallellujah means “Praise the Lord” in the religious sense. In here, it means the feeling of joy and appreciation. It tells a story about how he sees this woman that he desires and he gets weak in the knees with her. And the feeling of joy and appreciation begins (Hallelujah).

The last verse is telling that he will do everything to be with her, even if it means getting rid of someone who gets in the way. He tells her that he’s been through she’s been through and that love is not always a victory march. It could make you feel cold, broken, and feel certain kind of sadness.

Hallellujah to him comes from a place where it’s cold and broken. It’s a cry at night before you see the light. Music is how he expresses those feelings and connects with the divine. Music has a special kind of place in King David’s life and he has amused many with his talent. That’s what the “David” means in here. Words are great ways to communicate and music is a great way to speak to your soul.
