Everyone's At It Lyrics

I don't know much,
But I know this for certain,
That is the sun,
Poking its head round the curtain.

Now please can we leave,
I'd like to go to bed now.
It's not just the sun,
That is hurting my head now.

I'm not trying to say,
That I'm smelling of roses,
But when will we tire,
Of putting shit up our noses.

I don't like staying up,
Staying up past the sunlight.
It's meant to be fun,
And this just doesn't feel right.

Why can't we all,
All just be honest,
Admit to ourselves,
That everyone's on it.

From grown politicians,
To young adolescents,
Prescribing themselves,
Anti-depressants.

How can we start to tackle the problem,
If you don't put your hands up,
And admit that you're on them.

The kids are in danger,
They're all getting habits,
Because from what I can see,
Everyone's at it.
Everyone's at it.
Everyone's at it.
Everyone's at it.

I get involved,
But I'm not advocating.
Got an opinion,
Yeah, you're well up for slating.

So you've got a prescription,
And that makes it legal.
I find the excuses,
Overwhelmingly feeble.

You go to the doctor,
You need pills to sleep in.
Well if you can convince him,
Then I guess that's not cheating.

So your daughter's depressed,
We'll get her straight on the prozac.
But little do you know,
She already takes crack.

Why can't we all,
All just be honest,
Admit to ourselves,
That everyone's on it.

From grown politicians,
To young adolescents,
Prescribing themselves,
Anti-depressants.

How can we start to tackle the problem,
If you don't put your hands up,
And admit that you're on them.

The kids are in danger,
They're all getting habits,
Because from what I can see,
Everyone's at it.
Everyone's at it.
Everyone's at it.
Everyone's at it.

Why can't we all,
All just be honest,
Admit to ourselves,
That everyone's on it.

From grown politicians,
To young adolescents,
Prescribing themselves,
Anti-depressants.

How can we start to tackle the problem,
If you don't put your hands up,
And admit that you're on them.

The kids are in danger,
They're all getting habits,
Because from what I can see,
Everyone's at it.
Everyone's at it.
Everyone's at it.
Everyone's at it.

wow pretty powerful song for even lily. really deep, a lot of her songs sound deeper on the new cd. i cant wait! the songs obviously about abusing prescription drugs, and drugs in general. good message.

shes got it spot on really hasnt she, love how blunt she is

This songs meaning is obvious. shes talking about drugs and how everyones doing them (everyones at it) but in denial about so nothing gets achieved.

Anyone else think this song's beat is almost identical to Smile Like You Mean It by the Killers?

I like Lily Allen, but I feel weird when I hear this song and I feel like a guy is about to sing.

^ at some parts, it actually does. it's weird, haha.

this song is so fucking true; best lines: so youre daughters depressed, we'll get her straight on the prozac but little do you know she already takes crack

and the answer to 'why can't we all just be honest?' rofl, i think we all know.

Somebody knows what the following line means?

"sun poking it's head round the curtain"

the sun is rising; it's morning.

I thought that was obvious.

It's not obvious if English isn't your first language.

When something is "poking it's head round the corner" it's as if it's an actor waiting to go on stage, poking it's head round the corner to look at the audience, just about to go on.

Not Valid

sun/sunshine can also refer to cocaine or amphetamines. Elliott Smith references it a lot in his songs.

If this is the case here, it would seem like part of the song is somewhat biographical: She's talking about sunshine in the first person in the first verse, and then later says "So youre daughters depressed, we'll get her straight on the Prozac But little do you know she already takes crack"

Probably a dumb interpretation, sorry

this is an amazing song; the lyrics are so true

''sun poking its head round the curtain'' just means the sun is coming through the clouds, in this context it's as though she's been up all night doing coke and she can see the sun coming out meaning its morning and she wants to go home cos she's not enjoying it

this song is so real. i can relate to it because from a very young age i thought a pill could fix anything. then i realized that it doesn't always work like that so i tried to self medicate myself. it made the medication not work properly. the doctors kept giving me more shit and i kept asking for as much as i could. i think real happiness comes from inside and you have to find the underlying problem. the quick fix never really works.

"So you're daughters depressed, we'll get her straight on the Prozac But little do you know she already takes crack"

i think that is a powerful line. it just makes me a little scared to have children haha because i dont want them to fuck up like i did and i feel like perscriptions are becoming more and more available.
