Working Poor Lyrics
We are young and we are weak.
Just as blank as we are bleak.
Too far gone in our heads.
We all live and work in the red.
We're cold,
we had done all we've been told.
There's no court for our case.
What failure gave us suits our taste.
We all bend, we all break.
We all forfeit what we make.
Too far gone, in our heads.
We all live and work in the red.
We're cold,
we had done all we've been told.
There's no court for our case.
What failure gave us suits our taste.
There's no money to our names.
Empty pockets to our graves.
There's no court for our case.
What failure gave us suits our taste.
Just as blank as we are bleak.
Too far gone in our heads.
We all live and work in the red.
we had done all we've been told.
There's no court for our case.
What failure gave us suits our taste.
We all forfeit what we make.
Too far gone, in our heads.
We all live and work in the red.
we had done all we've been told.
There's no court for our case.
What failure gave us suits our taste.
Empty pockets to our graves.
There's no court for our case.
What failure gave us suits our taste.

WHY NO COMMENTS. oh dear. beautiful.
I think this song is about the young living in crippling debt in the pursuit of idealistic monetary wealth. A pursuit that has been sold to us by popular culture and the generation before us.
Lines like "too far gone in our heads," and "we had done all we've been told," reason that this financial pursuit is firmly rooted in our belief system and planted by those who held influence over us.
We all live and work in the red. In the red, in financial terms, is the color of losses or debt.
Ultimately our tastes are suited by being in debt (depicted as a failure) and we will go to the grave empty handed and cold.
If you apply the idea that the youth are in debt because of the commercial lifestyle that they have been told to pursue you can reason out most of the other lyrics for yourself.
i absolutely loveeee this song.its amazing.
"What failure gave us suits our taste."
So fatalistic. I love how the bounciness of the music contrasts with the bleakness of the lyrics.
all of horse feathers songs have such deep meaningful lyrics that tell such stories... I can never really understand them but the beauty of the songs is so incredibly overwhelming. especially this song, absolute beauty
