God Love Her Lyrics

Just a girl born in Dixie
Washed in blood and
Raised on the banks
Of the Mississippi mud
She always had a thing about
Falling in love with a bad boy
And they could see it all comin'
But her daddy never dreamed
She'd grow up that fast
You know what I mean
The way a girl gets
When she turns 17
Kinda crazy

She's a rebel child
And a preacher's daughter
She was baptized in dirty water
Her mama cried the first time they caught her with me
They knew they couldn't stop her
She holds tight
To me and the Bible
On the back seat of my motorcycle
Left her daddy standing there
Preaching to the choir you see
God love her
Oh, me and God love her

She kissed her mama goodbye
Said, "I'll be sure and phone ya,"
She called her from the truck stop
In Tuscon, Arizona
Amazing grace
We made California alive
And then my gypsy life
Started taking its toll
And the fast lane got empty and out of control
And just like an angel
She saved my soul from the devil

She's a rebel child
And a preacher's daughter
She was baptized in dirty water
Her mama cried the first time they caught her with me
They knew they couldn't stop her
She holds tight
To me and the Bible
On the back seat of my motorcycle
Left her daddy standing there
Preaching to the choir you see
God love her
Oh, me and God love her

Now she holds tight
To me and the Bible
On the back seat of my motorcycle
Left her daddy standing there
Preaching to the choir you see
God love her
Oh, me and God love her
God love her
Me and God love her

A girl who is Christian but falls in love with a bad boy and commits the evil sin of fornication, much to the chagrin of her parents. However, she ends up converting the bad boy to Christianity, while her preacher dad has not done any conversion. An endorsement of missionary dating?

My Interpretation

I was really surprised at how good this song is. I don't expect much from Toby Keith anymore. You would think the song is about how he corrupted a good girl. Instead, its about how he corrupted a good girl, but didn't do it all the way. She still held onto a little bit of her past and when things started going wrong, she helped bring him to the other side. I don't know if it'll become a classic, but it is still a pretty good song.

This song reminds me that no one is ever good enough for your child. I went through my rebelous stage. The guys that I dated when I was seventeen drove my mother crazy, but all are doing good now.

When I saw this video, it reminds me of my experiences with a guy like that. He was a really bad kid and personally, I'm catholic/christian. It's a really long tho but it made me so sad /: I misssed him soo much.

Memory

I think this song is about a girl who's Catholic/Christian, but has been half-rebel her whole life. When she meets a guy who's a bad boy and falls in love, her parents knew it was going to happen, but they didn't think it would happen so soon. ("They could see it all comin', but her daddy never dreamed she'd grow up that fast...") But in the end, even though she's with a bad boy, she stays true to the Catholic/Christian church, while still being with the bad boy. ("Now she holds tight to me and the Bible on the backseat of my motorcycle") That's always been my interpretation of the song, not that he turned her bad or anything. I love this song.
