I Can't Do It Alone Lyrics
Oh God, God, she's really done it now,
Coked up, her body's all spun around,
Oh yeah, yeah, she's really done it,
And seein' her just isn't something I can stomach,
Back it up, back it up,
If you talkin' shit to me,
Smack it up, smack it up,
If you act a bitch to me,
Stack it up, stack it up,
If you fuckin' rich as me,
My daddy owns a dealership,
The rest is fuckin' history
This ain't a love song (oh no),
This ain't a broken heart homie singin' only 'cause he's lonely,
This ain't a love song (oh, no, no, no),
This ain't a whiskey-drowned ballad,
There ain't nothing here that's valid,
So tell me baby, pretty baby, that this house is not a graveyard,
Tell me how to stay strong and carry you home,
Over corpses of her long-lost fathers and her unborn daughters,
God dammit, I just can't do it alone
I can't do it alone,
I can't do it alone,
No, I can't do it alone
Oh no, no, I'm not impressed with you,
Pink drinks that seem to get the best of you,
Rock late and sleep until the sun sets,
I'd talk but you took the tongue I talk with
Back it up, back it up,
If you talkin' shit to me,
Smack it up, smack it up,
If you act a bitch to me,
Stack it up, stack it up,
If you fuckin' rich as me,
My daddy owns a dealership,
The rest is fuckin' history

To me, it sounds like he gets dumped in the first verse. 'Oh god, Oh god, she's really done it now' - He knew the relationship was ending already. 'Coked up, her body's all spun around' She's walking away, and she's crazy for it. 'And seeing her just isn't something I can stomach' -He's hating her for what she did, and can't stand to see her. Pre Chorus - Him telling himself that he won't put up with all the shit she put him through 'This ain't a love song...' He's serious, he doesn't want her back, he's not just hung up about being dumped. 'So tell me baby, pretty baby, that this house is not a graveyard' - 'So Tell me that our love isn't dead. I don't believe you.' 'Tell me how to stay strong and carry you home,' - 'Tell me how I can forgive you' 'Over corpses of her long-lost fathers and her unborn daughters' - The life they could have had. Which she killed. 'God dammit, I just can't do it alone' - pretty obvious. Second Verse - Him trying to tell himself he's better off, she was just a whore anyways. Third Verse - Him telling himself, that he did nothing wrong, because it's easier to blame her.
Wow, that dragged on, and it's only a guess.
I think this song is about how he's not happy with the way this relationship is going, and he's asking her to tell him that the relationship isn't over yet. "So tell me, pretty baby, that this house is not a graveyard." He doesn't want to be the only one who's trying to make it work, hence, "I can't do it alone."
Okay. This is what I believe the song to be..and from personal experiance by putting my life into words such as this song...well. just listen.
Well it says its obviousl not a love song. So cross that out. The girl he is talking about is having problems with her past. Pregnancy scares and her father that left her or died. He basicly want to know how he can help her get over it because she has asked him to move it and whatnot and he doesnt want her to ask him that just to try to get over her past. She gets drunk and whatnot and is just messed up from her past and he's saying he can help her all on his own. He needs her to want to be helped.
this song is kinda ovious to me.
in the first verse: "coked up, he body's all spun around" - coke is coccaine so she on drugs, and its making her crazy "Oh yeah, yeah, she's really done it"- she wont stop with the drugs and he finally broke up with her "And seein' her just isn't something I can stomach" - he can't stand the way she looks when she on drugs
Chorus: "So tell me baby, pretty baby, that this house is not a graveyard"-that theres so many memories that are dead because they broke up "Over corpses of her long-lost fathers and her unborn daughters" - that their life they could of had together is now over "God dammit, I just can't do it alone" - he cant help her by himself second verse: that she was a heavy drinker and she always came how late third verse: how easy it is to blame everything on her now that their not together
wow, sorry for the long explanation. good song though
So, I'm thinking this is a friends with benefits gone wrong situation. It sounds like he got in way over his head with some girl with daddy issues and drug problems. He thought he was the shit "Smack it up, smack it up/If you act a bitch to me". He's arrogant and thinks the relationship means nothing until he realizes how messed up she is"Coked up, her body's all spun around/Oh yeah, yeah, she's really done it/And seein' her just isn't something I can stomach" and "There ain't nothing here that's valid/.../Over corpses of her long-lost fathers and her unborn daughters" screams daddy issues. It sounds like her dad walked out, and she became one of those easy girls looking to replace daddy's love with anyone's, hence the 'unborn daughters' abortion line. But "This ain't a love song". He clearly wants to help but doesn't know how to because she doesn't want to change, and "God dammit, I just can't do it alone". So less about love, more about wanting to be a halfway decent human being and help someone.
She's dead. Or nearly dead.
The fear and panic in that opening "oh god, oh god" wipes away any ideas that this might be a party anthem. In the beginning stanza the speaker opens the door and sees a girl overdosed, twisted grotesquely, laid out on the floor. This isn't the first time it's happened, but "she's really done it now."
Then with the chorus "back it up, back it up" he takes us on a trip down memory lane. Their relationship was not a romantic affair: "There ain't nothing here that's valid." They were brought together because of their party lifestyles, riches, and daddy issues: "our long lost fathers." Despite petty bickering and abuse they've stayed together because she got pregnant.
Even though he knows how shallow and how superficial their relationship was, gazing down at her corpse he realizes too late how much he needed her. In denial and cowardice he turns away and walks out the door moaning, "Tell me, baby, pretty baby, that this house is not a graveyard. Tell me how to stay strong."
He walks into the rain, which is falling hard. He wants to call out to her, to yell, and to complain about something as stupid as bad weather, but decides, "it's that much better if I do it all in person." After standing there for a bit of time and letting the storm soak through him, he walks back inside and carries her body home.
I love this song... And First COMMENT!!! I really don't get what it means, except that he can't do it alone.
i think he's trying to tell himself that he's okay alone, but obv he's not and, duh, can't do it alone.
I can't believe there;s only 2 comments on this song. It's so catchy and just amazing...I love it. :)
