If I Sit Still Maybe I’ll Get Out Of Here Lyrics
I’m so sorry for the things I’ve done
And what I did to you is up there number 1.
So sweaty of palm and tongue tied tight,
We’ll sit here and talk late into the night.
Yesteryear still rings my ear.
Like buttons and pins this mess we’re in
dissolves in time.
I know that this time is quite different from when we first met
The years haven’t been kind worn down by regret
So take hope theres still enough of what made this young man left
All that once was is not quite gone yet.
Cause we are old friends you and I,
many a time sat silent at my side.
And if this is to be our last goodbye
I’ll take with me a part of you that never dies.
Yesteryear still rings my ear.
Like buttons and pins this mess we’re in
dissolves in time.
I know that this time is quite different from when we first met
The years haven’t been kind worn down by regret
So take hope theres still enough of what made this young man left
All that once was is not quite gone yet.
And what I did to you is up there number 1.

To me, this song is about this guy talking to his ex girl friend, not really trying to get her back, but saying to her that he is still the same as when they first met and maybe it is worth giving it another try. But he also says that if this last visit is our last goodbye, than he'll always have her in his heart. "many a time sat silent at my side" That line makes me think its a relationship. I feel as if he is trying to say slept in the same bed. Awesome band, awesome song...
This song typifies the resurgence of real 90's emo rock like cap'n jazz etc TIGHT.AS.FUCK.
this song reminds me so much of me and my bf
thank you chibi101, no one is better for having read your comment. (although this might make me a hypocrate :-)
Sunhsine your comment made me smile...which made me a little better which ipso facto prevents you from being a hypocrite!!

to me this song is just about the mistakes that have happened between two friends and the toll it has taken on them but also the toll of time and changes they went through that have seperated the both of them.
That's some strange song structure there! 2 verses, 2 bridges, 2 choruses! =]
Sorry just wanted to say about the 2 verses, 2 choruses, 2 bridges: the strangeness is that it's written like in paragraphs in an essay or letter: all are about the same size, plus he repeats them which make you feel as if they're all the same! Like: bridge, chorus, verse? Does it matter anymore? I could argue that the chorus or bridge, or that the chorus is changing, and the verse is the these are happening in songs, just seperately usually. The only way to conclude that he starts with a verse is the convention of not starting with a bridge, or the improbability of starting with a chorus, cause statistically, most don't. Also, usually the verses are the one changing but if I hadn't have the structure in my mind presented simply as shown here like just from listening I couldn't tell cause when mess up with the time signature like they do you don't think of it anymore as highlights and stuff; I find it interseting that maybe math rock can redefine those things, or disobey them. Maybe they haven't here, but I think they are very close to do so.

I think it isn't a 'wanting ex back' at all. This song means so much to me bc it reminds me of me and my best friend. Through all of the shit I've put him through, he's still there for me. THAT is the emotion that I personally feel
