The Back Of My Head

I think this song is all about a doomed relationship. The guy knows that it's over and doesn't think that his girlfriend knows yet 'He wonders if she knows, he thinks only he knows'. I think that 'Are you out there, are you anywhere?' is about his quest to find the perfect girl. He hopes that she's out there, waiting for him.

This is what I think, please feel free to dispute.

This song is one of my favourites :) It's about loving someone and keeping all your feelings in your head pretty self-explanitory :P

i LOVE this song. probably my fav on the album so far. i kinda agree with it being about someone you love, but ur keeping it in your head. but also it cud be about something else because of the 'are you out there, are you anywhere'. maybe he hasnt found this perfect girl yet?

He is watching her from his house. I think they may have a “summer holiday” type relationship that is why he says “he think’s you’ll forget” as he assumes that she no longer remembers their relationship but it means a lot to him. Shadows on the wall who mock me Make a false sense of security I think of deep thoughts and I try to compare My lonely heart to yours, so you know that I'm there But the days are passing and the fire is dead So we keep it all here in the back of your head

Their relationship “the fire” no longer exists it has been extinguished (no pun intended)

Are you out there, are you anywhere? Just say goodbye, just like in my nightmare Are you lost without me, are you better off dead? You should keep it all here in the back of my head

Does their relationship still exist? Is it all gone? Maybe she is avoiding him because she doesn’t want to rekindle the fire and now he is searching for her and can’t find her because she is hiding.

I remember that we had no structure A lonely park that night I wish I fucked her Looked to your eyes, can't remember whether Or not that I wish this night would last forever Now the story's ending and things are better not said So we keep it all here in the back of your head

He wishes well that he “did more with her” while they were together. I assume the night in the park was the last time they were “together” as such and now he wishes that night “lasted forever” so their summer relationship could continue to exist. Their relationship has ended and now “some thing’s are better not said” such as he better not tell her that he loves her because she doesn’t and/or she is in another relationship. Or it could mean “some thing’s are better off not said” she is the ‘cool’ girl he is the ‘dorky’ boy so therefore their relationship is better off not being known by anyone.

Anyway that is my assumption of what this song means =] (feel free to criticise)
