Borrow You Lyrics

Outside, outside looking in
Tinted windows and lots of pretentious grins
Surrounded by ties and cars
Seething in churches and fighting in bars
Holding on tight to things they don't need
Yet starving for some company
It's kind of funny when I realize
We're leasing love and leasing life

With the time that I have left here on the planet
Can I borrow you?
With the time that I have left here in this world
Will you indulge me too?
With the time that we have left here on the planet
You can borrow me and I'll borrow you

Inside, inside looking out
Not sure what the fuss is really all about
Excited by stocks and shares
Flashing some C-notes and hoping people care
Breaking out champagne bottles to the girls
Who'd rather drink domestic beer in tumblers
It's kind of funny when I realize
We're leasing love and leasing life

With the time that I have left here on the planet
Can I borrow you?
With the time that I have left here in this world
Will you indulge me too?
With the time that I have left here on the planet
You can borrow me and I'll borrow you

Temporary moments in a momentary universe
I never really own the things for which I work
Temporary moments in a momentary universe
The only thing I might ever take with me is a little bit of love

Cover art for Borrow You lyrics by Judd Starr

I love this song. It totally reminds me of life in So Cal! People so often seek to define themselves by impermanent things and don't realize how futile it is. Life can change in the blink of an eye and the only thing we get to hold on to is our soul. Unfortunately the soul seems to be bartered cheaply by most, in exchange for BMW's that can be crashed, huge houses on hills that fall down in mudslides, and pretty diamonds that can't be taken in to the next life.
