Fifteen Lyrics
I think this song shows why Taylor Swift is such a popular artist. She sings about things girls actually go through. A lot of times girls feel like they're lost which is why "this is life before you know who you're gonna be."
It's like a vineyette almost. She's just talking about her life when she was fifteen, and she's trying to give a little advice to girls who are at the same point in their lives as she was. She talks about boys and her first kiss, and how at the time, they seemed like the most important thing to her. She even thought she was going to marry one of them.
She also talks about her best friend Abigail. She shows how their friendship was all laughs making fun of other girls who thought "they were so cool." They both wanted to get out of their town. Then Abigail gave her heart (and possibly her virginity) to a boy who "changed his mind" and they both cried. Abby cried because she was heartbroken, and Taylor cried because her best friend was in pain.
I think this is a beautiful song.
Oh, and I hope I submitted the correct lyrics, but I'm not entirely sure.
I fully agree with you...angil973..Taylor Swift just speaks out to girls who are just trying to get through life and hoping that everything will be alright

Somehow, I think that Taylor gave her virginity too ! I think the song is talking about her regret that she dated a boy in this age .. "When all you wanted was to be wanted, Wish you could go back and tell yourself what you know now"

I wouldn't say this song is true to every single girl that is or was fifteen, but in general it's a song a lot of girls can relate to in some way or another. When I was fifteen I definitely could not relate to the whole "chasing the boys" thing, because I wasn't and still am not ready for the responsibility of it just yet. But having the best friend who you go through everything with, and the feelings you have the very first day of highschool, I can most certainly relate to those things.
I'm really not a fan of country music, but I love how Taylor puts a little pop twist on the genre. It's what makes her music listenable for me. (:

I'll start with this. I do not like Taylor Swift. I find her voice grating and whiny.
However, I think this song speaks volumes about what happens in high school. I'm a dude and I went to Christian schools from Preschool until I graduated high school. When freshman year started, I knew a lot of nice, innocent girls from long before, and a few I had crushes on even then. When they started giving it up to junior and senior guys, it really made me sad. They became completely different people, not just in their sex lives but in their attitude, and many who were once down to earth became snooty, rejecting their life-long friends. The smart good girls dumbed themselves down and started dressing slutty (as slutty as you can get under a rigid dress code anyways) to get shallow older guys. The partying, drinking, and sleeping around consumed their lives and continued until high school ended. Many got pregnant, some multiple times, and almost all of them got abortions (this stuff spreads at a school of 400 people, believe me). Most of them were cheated on by their handsome football-playing boyfriends and continued dating them anyways since they were their security blankets, so to speak. And at Christian schools, most couples get married only a few short years if not right after high school. Taylor is right; there are much more important things in life than chasing down some jerk who treats you like crap.
If I have a daughter some day, I hope there are artists around who will sing honest and meaningful songs like this one.
I actually like her voice, it's not the best but it's nice. But I tend to enjoy her lyrics more than her voice itself. Your description of the school sounds pretty accurate. I used to go o a Catholic school and it only went up to eighth grade, but things were pretty messed up then too. And the local high schools were just like that. There's nothing holy about Catholic school :) That last comment was really sweet, it's nice that some people aren't just going around saying "OMIGAWD i just luvv this song!" Completely agree with you

taylor swifts new album is the perfect album for teenage girls. i'm not a big fan of most coutnry music, but she has changed my mind. i can relate to this song more then any other song out there right now. i'm 15 and even though i know the guys you have dated, the things you have done at 15 are not going to matter in 5, 10, 15 years they do now. and as teenagers or 15 year olds we get caught up in them. we are naive as xxmodernlove said. everything about this song is perfect. && i agree with what everyone has said about "abigail", sex is something girls my age get caught up in & most regret it. this is a song so many girls over the nation can relate to, and thats why i love it so much.
oh my, this is sooo true. straight from the young teenage heart.
anyways, it's like what we all think. when we're young and have our first real relationship, we don't see anything bad in it.
i know from my own experience, when i was fifteen and my boyfriend told me he loved me, i completely believed him, sadly the next week he went on a cruise and cheated on me with 3 girls.
young hearts are so naïve. :/
"You sit in class next to a redhead named Abigail and soon enough you’re best friends laughing at the other girls who think they’re so cool We’ll be out of here as soon as we can. "
I lovet his line for some reason. My bestfriends name is abigail(:
What a great song!
to me, its like how when your young, you think you know everything and your on top of the world, because life seems so perfect... “And then you’re on your very first date and he’s got a car And you’re feeling like flying And you’re momma’s waiting up and you think he’s the one And you’re dancing round your room when the night ends when the night ends” some friendships might end, boys break your heart, and your realize highschool mabye isnt all that its cracked up to be. but then theres always someone there for you, and together your able to get through the hard times, and grow up and mature I'm 17 right now, and i can definetly say that this song helped me to put the last few years into perspective. this songs describes it so perfectly, only i was 14 “When all you wanted was to be wanted .. Wish you could go back and tell yourself what you know now”
Taylor swift is a great artist and i connected to this song on a deep level. I don't really listen to this genre of music ( emo/pop/ alternative/ screamo) But this song is catchy and many girls are able to connect.
I love Taylor and especially this song. She is the ONLY artist out there right now that is telling girls "Hold onto yourself!" ... all the other artists out there promote being slutty and giving your first sexual expierences away to boys while you are drunk and high. This whole song is about being in high school and holding onto yourself, being secure with who you are, and NOT needing a guy to reassure you of your own self-worth. When ever I feel this song it makes me proud to be a girl. We all need to support each other without needing men. My favorite line in this song is "When all you wanted was to be wanted" ... it basically sums up being an American teenage girl. I'm 16 right now and Taylor helps me be okay with who I am.
This song is really about starting high school and you don't really know what you're in for. You don't realize how much really changes, when you're fifteen, it's really not easy to deal with it all and you get all caught up in the senior boys who pay attention. when you're new and get payed attention to by an upperclassmen, it makes you feel good. but when you're fifteen, you have no idea what you want..you don't think that cute boy is going to break your heart, you don't think you'll get played. you don't think if you lose your vigrinity to a boy, that he'll stop talking to you. you just don't think it'll happen to you..til it does. this song basically describes my entire freshman year..my freshman year, my older brother was a senior and i got a lot of attention from a lot of his friends. they we're like "oh wow, she's all grown up now" ect, ect. i was told by this amazing, great, cute guy that he loved me. we had a "thing" for 6 months and he never asked me out...turns out he had a girlfriend. but i believed every word he told me. how much he loved me, how special i was. i was dumb..i was fourteen...what did i know? Out of my two best friends, one gave EVERYTHING she had to a boy. then he decided that he found someone else to do, and dumped her. she didn't even see it coming, though everyone warned her..now he's gone back to my old best friend, because he knows he'll get whatever he wants from her. he doesn't even love her....we're not friends anymore. he took her away from me. My other best friend got so lost, and didn't tell me she was going through so much until one day i saw cuts all up her arm....now i'm a sophomore and she's still struggling, because she won't let anyone in enought to help her...i feel like had i gotten the chance, i would go back and tell myself everything i was going to screw up. get my self to notice the signs, and save myself some trouble and some heartbreak. i've grown a lot in a year. i've realized what's important and i've started mending everything that's broken including my heart. yes, since then i've gotten my heart broken again, but some things, you just can't change...high school is high school. this song though, it really helps. a lot. when i come home after a bad day, this song really comforts me. it helps me get through it all..
