A Sight To Behold Lyrics

Reflecting ourselves in the blood of all the beings we slay
Misunderstand each other, out of control we remain
There is a mystery, we're facing a sight to behold
This is what we make of the world, we throw everything away

The way we all behave is not understandable
It is so sad to see the wealth of our planet fade away
We all behave like children, taking off the head of our teddy bear
to see what's inside, taking, not giving back
We drain the oceans and suck all the blood out of the soil
We spend the time we have left fighting and killing each other
Lust for comfort, entertainment becomes an obsession
And there is so much time to kill

The way I see things is so simple
The fact I'm walking standing on this land
Exhausted is the realm of nature, friends are dying
The living creatures on our side
The way I see myself so confused so sophisticated
I have to stay away from me
But I still don't get the point
What's worth destroying all the worlds
Try not to get it anymore

You burn yourself, set fire for good
We die eyes closed, dig our own grave now
Tossed in the blaze naked on the flame
Lost with no pride, drowned in the filth
The giant snake is coming down to eat our heads
and the flood will kill us, Mantus is rising from under

The way I see things is so simple
The fact I'm living dying on this land
Exhausted is the realm of nature, friends are dying
The living creatures on our side
The way I see myself so confused so sophisticated
Don't have to stay away from me
But I still don't get the point
What's worth destroying all the worlds

Try not to get it anymore [4x]

In my opinion, this is one of the easiest of Gojira's songs as far as interpretation. Duplantier and the rest of Gojira are advocating one of their most prominent ideas, the idea that humans are willingly and carelessly destroying the planet at an astonishing rate. This 'Sight to behold' is simple to see yet hard to understand, hence the lines 'The way I see things is so simple' and 'But I still don't get the point'.

Following the bridge of the song is a fast-paced stretch which includes the line that references the god of the underworld, Mantus. As a result of the human mindset of using the earth's resources simply for our benefit, all aspects of earth are being depleted unsustainably. The song states that as a result of these actions, 'the flood will kill us', and Mantus will rise from the underworld in anger and astonishment.

My interpretation of the last four lines is that he is giving up on humanity, and is no longer trying to understand the evil that humans possess.

this song is about how everybody is not using the resources that they have wisely. "the wealth of our panet fade away" and it is also about how people have become lazy and just sit around all the time instead of going outside and actually soing something"lust for comfort, entertainmenat becomes an obssesion" and this is a bad way to be because it is an unhealthy lifestyle" the way i see myself so confused so sophisticated" thats what i think anyway

gojira rocks!!! \m/ \m/

I think everyone who posted before had the right idea. I thought the song was a bit more about personal disgust with oneself and blaming everyone on their individuality and therefore conforming to being almost too isolated as an individual. I think some lines are fairly self-explanatory.

"Reflecting ourselves in the blood of all the beings we slay"

I eat meat, but for some reason I think this line is about knowing your roots or at least what gives you or enables you to live the way you do.

"The way I see things is so simple"

When you are brainwashed, things are always simple. Brainwashing = suggestion = influence = opinion. Thoughts = words = actions = habits. Everyone knows it's bad, but...

"Exhausted is the realm of nature, friends are dying"

I thought this was more of just a true general statement. The nature of nature is extreme survival. Don't mess with mother nature, nurture vs. nature. The second part that death is inevitable, almost a positive point of the song, whether it be the humans' extinction or earth's demi-eternal recycling.

"The living creatures on our side"

AT first I thought just blood and flesh stuff, but then it made me think like they had to say living like phony and I started thinking about mechanical machines. You become so used to electronics and multimedia. You don't mistake it for a deer in the forest, but when was the last time you saw a deer in the forest? Probably Discovery channel.

"The way I see myself so confused so sophisticated"

Self struggle. We feel empowered by our self knowledge of earth and its workings, but as sophisticated as we are, why are we so confused by something as green policy? We could stop it, but we can justify its superseding ignoring.

"I have to stay away from me"

Everyone bitches about other people. Then you realize you are like other people. Sure, you like this to drink this or you sleep in saturday when they don't. You are the problem though, aren't you?

"But I still don't get the point"

Obvious in its confusion. What do I do? Even me! Why do I know this? How does it help?

"What's worth destroying all the worlds Try not to get it anymore"

At perhaps a point of desperation, you step outside the petty shit you have(although I did not mention you would be reflecting on this), you're almost ready to go to bed after a night and you think. Was it worth it? And those heavy thoughts come... You're ready to sleep though, and you try to not get it anymore, 'cause hey it's not like you were trying. Everyone was. That's why you're doing it. To get away from me.

"You burn yourself, set fire for good"

Being born. Like I said earlier, influenced. Pretty damn hard to be aware when you're a kid. At least in the Western world.

Born and the typical song interpretation of media influence, etc.

"Lost with no pride, drowned in the filth"

These thoughts rate pretty high though in morality in the sense that, yeah, screwing our own survival plan is pretty stupid? But first we don't live long enough to really care about the survival cycle(my own thoughts). I think Gojira meant more of a being confused theme again and how tricky and misleading society is, leading back to a marketable(media wise) crisis of the environment. Not that it couldn't be or is serious, but also how powerfully we are influenced and the total uncertainty of the the green situation. Therefore the, filth. Drowning in this 50/50 sea that draws you to apathy.

"The giant snake is coming down to eat our heads and the flood will kill us, Mantus is rising from under"

I do not know the significance of Mantus, but I saw this line as a general earth cleansing itself proclamation. Help me out!

I'd say the song is pretty self-explanatory. The Synthesizer really gives this song a terrific atmosphere. It's a shame that more musicians don't take this stance against excess and ignorance.
