Lifeboats

This is a beautiful song -- one of my favourites from the new album.

I think it's about a relationship, when he sings "Kiss me, kiss me lifes to short to scream and shout" He's saying to the girl that they should make up because lifes to short to have arguements. They should stop argueing and focus on more important things in life.

Also, that they should talk about their problems, and how they're feeling "Sing out sing out, the silence only eats us from the inside up" Which is pretty self explainitary.

And send your lifeboats out to me means that he's trying to understand her but she won't talk to him or tell him how/whys shes upset. So he's saying send me a lifeline -- a life boat because he's sinking, their relationships sinking and he needs her to save him.

Just my own opinion. It would be interesting to see what everyone else thinks :)

I think "There's no truth at all poking OUT the giant eyes of ancient gods." means that there is no need to drag up the wrongs of the past.

I do think the song is about a relationship, and I agree with the other comments - this bit I feel refers to the way some people in relationships keep bringing up past grievances during arguments when nothing can be dones about the past. What you need to do is move on and talk about the real issues that putting a strain on the relationship "sing out sing out" - He wants to save his relationship and he asking for a lifeboat.

Beautiful song - love it.

I think this song is about a spiritual awaking. It is when you challenge old beliefs of yourself or others. At the start of the song, 'let me get the words out before I burn' means I am going to challenge you ancient gods. He is literally saying to the gods, there is not truth in what you say.

As the song goes on, he is fighting with himself inside philosophically. He is trying to find out just what his spirituality is or what he believes in. Since many are scared to say how they feel in religious or spiritual aspects, this is what he means by 'Silence only eats from the inside out'. He wants to share with the world his beliefs without being ridiculed or chastised by society or family.

'Send you lifeboats for me' for me means he wants to be accepted and loved no matter what he believes in.

From the lyrics to this song, I think the singer takes a more scientific few on life than spiritual.

Anyway, just my take...but no matter what he means..it is a lovely song.

about the meaning, i think it's about realizing your mistake (in a relationship) and realizing you need her/him so much. i think "lifeboat" means help.

This song really seems like he's waking up after a hellish nightmare that scares the bejeebers out of him. And then he wakes up and sees the love of his life when he wakes up and his world is just alright again. He's safe with her. But than that's just after reading the lyrics, I'm buying the album today

This is the meaning of the song. I get the same thing from reading the lyrics. He's having terrible nightmares about insecurities he has with his relationship and the fear of losing his love. He wakes up and he's safe because she's still there, sleeping right next to him. She is his lifeboat. As long as she's there, everything is going to be alright for him.

I think that "there's no truth at all poking at the giant eyes of ancient gods" should actually be "There's no truth at all poking OUT the giant eyes of ancient gods."

I'm labeling this as an "interpretation" hoping that that means it's interpreting what the words are.
