Lock and Key Lyrics
We saw the sun was going down
through the iron bar spiderwebs
they turned the key
but we were already dead
we were already stone dead
We are the wind tonight
blowing up blowing down blowing left and right
shake shake 'cause we put that chill in your bones tonight
take that lock and key and shove it
Caught every lightning bug out in the yard
not a lone breath leaks the lips
as they come to grips with this.
We left them there and drifted west
when you and I coalesced
Later on, one swore he saw us open the jar
all the chemicals luminesce in their chests
and shine right through
kinda like me and you
kinda like me and you do
through the iron bar spiderwebs
they turned the key
but we were already dead
we were already stone dead
blowing up blowing down blowing left and right
shake shake 'cause we put that chill in your bones tonight
take that lock and key and shove it
not a lone breath leaks the lips
as they come to grips with this.
when you and I coalesced
all the chemicals luminesce in their chests
and shine right through
kinda like me and you
kinda like me and you do

its about sex. awesome song by the way, if they hired a better producer/mixer, i think it could've been a hit.
if they hired a better producer/mixer huh? I went to high school with most of these guys, their drummer is fresh out of high school, the rest of the guys are fresh outta the university of michigan. Its a little ridiculous for you to think theyd have those types of funds- theyre workin their way up like all bands. But I will say if you have heard any of their old DIY recordings they almost did a better job themselves. The synth had way more of a presence like their demo version of Lights Off. I also think your right...

I also think your right in the fact that it needs more depth, the drums should have more kick, and the guitar/vocal clearity isnt stellar. And is it about sex? Im not sure. Definitely some sort of energy between jon and the lady of subject.
"better" how? the mixing on the album was superb in my opinion. if you mean a more prominent, famous producer or mixer, then you might be right. but then again, mason proper is a hit to me...

A different producer might have made it a hit? Hmm.. maybe they should have gotten the guy that did Tv on The Radio's newest. Oh wait, they did.

I think the albums great, no fingers can be pointed at their producer for it not being a "hit". That comes down to marketing budget, timing, and chance.

I would like to hear Nigel Godrich produce an album of theirs or Jon Visger. I could dig that.

ah, dude, it totally is about sex, huh? ahahhahahaha, i read that, thinking- "fuckin perve, it can't be-" (then read the bits about blowing up, blowing down, &taking a lock&key&shoving it.)
well, i think that's a bit too literal. it's sort of beautiful, though.
"we left them there and drifted west while you and i coalesced."
"Later on, one swore he saw us open the jar all the chemicals luminesce in their chests and shine right through kinda like me and you kinda like me and you do."
'one swore he saw us open the jar' kinda sounds like the singer/writer getting caught in some affair or other with a significant other.
i don't know; i'm surprised few people commented on this.
