Another Day

Not my interpretation of His meaning but what this songs to me. As most know, JT had a girlfriend named Suzanne that the first verse of "Fire and Rain" is about her death. Likewise, my first long relationship was with a Suzanne and unfortunately she died in a car accident. so that song is special to me as well. In my mind these songs are about the same person... When I first heard this song it immediately brought me back to a very dreadful night in my life soon after i graduated from high school. Suzanne (which yes, I did call suzy from time to time) lived literally down the street from me. A Friend of mine and I had gone and come back from a day trip to the beach. That night i returned and I over heard my dad "praying". He did not know I was there. He had just tried to OD on some prescription meds in order to take his own life. I went and found my step-mom, and she confronted him. He left our house on foot. I contacted the man that lived across from suzanne and we started to search for my Dad. Eventually, and very late, paramedics had located him very near suzanne's house. They determined, dad was going to be sick but fine. I remember Suzanne coming out of our house with her parents and looking at me with tears in her eyes and us embracing. That night i spent at the neighbor's - I did not want to be at my home. The next morning i was able to spend with Suzanne which was probably about the best thing following the previous night. Okay, so that's the first time I've ever written that out... therapeutic.

I think there maybe some relation between the tow songs, fire & rain and another day( both songs related to james taylor's childhood friend Suzanne, or Suzy who unfurtunately ended her life by sucide, while james was in London , and the hurrible news didn't reach hime till later on.
