If There's a Rocket Tie Me To It Lyrics
I found a hair the length of yours on my sleeve,
I wound it round and round my finger so tight.
It turned to purple and a pulse formed inside,
And I knew the beat 'cause it matched your own beat.
I still remember it from our chest to chest and feet to feet.
The easy silence then was a sweet relief to this hush,
Of ovens aeroplanes and of distant car points.
A fire a fire, you can only take what you can carry,
A pulse, your pulse, it's the only thing I can remember.
I break, you don't, I was always set to self-destruct, though
The fire, the fire, it cracks and the barks like primal music.
It's become my engine my own source of heat.
The sea between us only amplifies the sound waves,
Every hum and echo and crash paints my cave.
I got this CD signed last night in Blefast and am listening it to the first time now.I've literally just heard this song for the first time. And what a beautiful introduction to "A hundred Million Suns"
Its about missing someone you have just lost and trying to move on. Then you find a little reminder of them-like a hair-and you can't help but think about them You compare your own pulse to theirs("Your beat") and remember the days when you lay so close to them that you could feel their heartbeat/pulse. The loneliness of not being with that person makes the silence eerie, and the distance between you "amplifies the sound"-makes the loneliness/silence unbearable and worse. The silence is deafening, eg The crackling of the fire-"barks"like "primal music" and the only sounds to be heard are irrelevant-("hum of ovens, aeroplanes...") because you feel you have nothing left.
youuu are insanely good at unraveling these songs. i've read a lot of your posts now... and jeez this one really almost brought me to tears. considering that i actually have lost someone, you've hit the nail on the head. what a beautiful song and response. :)

Thank you. I find it easy to do so because I feel I understand the lyrics, theyre meaningful to me and feel so intimate and personal, a lot like my own experiences. I've lost someone too and I identify with those feelings.

The first song on the album and I was hook on it from the chorus snippet from the official website.
I guess its about someone missing their other half who has gone away for whatever reason, though the feeling I get is not due to a break up. So he's missing her because she's not there not because he's lost her. Though I might be completely wrong about that.
This is definitely not groundbreaking, but I believe that the person being sung about has died. The obsession with "pulse" throughout the song suggests that the person has perished, as the "beat" of their heart has stopped. Our lonely fellow is now clearly depressed and grieving, as the word "reprieve" elicits, as well as the fact that he is literally cutting off the circulation in his finger - an indication of possible self-harm. Lastly, the title of the song, "If There's a Rocket Tie Me to It," conveys the message that he would like to be sent up to heaven to see his lost beloved. I love this song, truly one of my favorite SP tracks.
Great start to the new album. Haha that someone has ALREADY added the lyrics
I'm getting the feeling that this song is about being separated from a loved one. Even suggested in the title; tie me to a rocket so I can be with them.
Agreeing with TomatoCat, I definitely get that vibe! :)

LOVE this song... the only think is for song reason I don't quite get the corus(haha smart right?) if someone could explain it tha would help!
I Love everything about this part "Two weeks later like a surplus reprieve I found a hair the length of yours on my sleeve I wound it round and round my finger so tight It turned to purple and a pulse formed inside"
Agree with rofeta about the meaning.
'When your eyes meet mine, I lose simple skills, like to tell you all I wont is now' reminds me of how i feel numb as i gaze into her eyes. Amazing line.
Best track of the album along with set down your glass
Dan184, im sorry to tell you but you got the wrong song. That line is from set down your glass
