The Real Snow White Lyrics

You've got what I want
Yeah, you've got what I want
You've got what I want

Oh yeah, it's only for the night
And I will give it back tomorrow, I swear
She can barely breathe, don't stare
I know the dress is tight
But it was all I had to wear
Give me what I need, please share
You know it's only right
And I would never lie to you, I wouldn't dare

I made a promise to myself
I wouldn't start with anyone else
But you know how it is with these promises
Made in the heat of the moment
They're made to be broken in two
Sometimes the only thing to do

Oh no! It's all coming back
How I came to in a sticky three-day hole
Didn't see the sign: "Go slow"
Too busy tuning static on the radio-o-o-oh
She hissed it in a song: "Don't go,
It always fades to black"
But that's why I love the trip, it's so inevitable

I made a promise to myself
I wouldn't fall for anyone else
But you know how it is with these promises
Made in the heat of the moment
They're made to be less than they seem
Whenever you've got what I need
And you've got what I need
You've got what I need

Aiiiieeeee! For service with a smile
I have to walk in on my hands and roll for free
You say it's all the same: ennui
You're not the real Snow White
The real Snow White is on my knee
I didn't need to get ID
It's simply minimum height
And getting all dressed up in seven ways to please, yeah

I made a promise to myself
I wouldn't stay with anyone else
But you know how it is with these promises
Made in the heat of the moment
They're made to be broken one day
If there's no time to get away

Uh-oh! she wasn't made to shine
She was really only ever made to glow
I left her in the dark, no show
Quiet sucking on a line
It was a tricky gun to load
And I didn't get to fire
Hi-ho! She's off to work for time
I should have finished out with higher up than low

Yeah, I made a promise to myself
I wouldn't stop with anyone else
But you know how it is with these promises
Made in the heat of the moment
They're made before right becomes wrong
Whenever you've got what I want
And you've got what I want
You've got what I want

Oh yeah, it's only for the night
And I will give it back tomorrow, I swear

Probably my favorite song on the new album. I love all of the sexual undertones in the song. I'm sure this song could be interpreted in a couple different ways, the most obvious being a guy not being able to keep up with some kind of committment to another girl.

I think this song is about Cocaine, crack-cocaine, or maybe Heroin, which would reference "The Real Snow White", and the entire story is how she is dependent on acquiring this for a source, likely selling herself for some. The entire "you've got what I want, oh yeah, it's only for tonight, and i'll give it back tomorrow i swear", and the "hi-ho, she's off to work on time". Awesome references and points off return.

i think it's about a wild girl whos satisfying her lover, she's got what he wants, she does all that he wants for him. It's crazy how this whole album is about i don't want innocent girls, i want sex, that's all. i hope it's not RS for real, or he aint the real snow man!

I love it! What a cute song. "Hi-Ho! She's off to work....." Haha-- what artist quotes Disney movies anymore? Robert's so unique.

I was just listening to this song and puzzling over the lyrics (as I always do). I love them but find them consistently baffling. I like certain phrases in particular, like "when I came to in a sticky three-day hole" (reminds me of a couple of occasions back at university...though I'm not sure any of those could qualify as "three-day!") and "I didn't need to get ID, it's simply minimum height" (another one that brings back those university parties, where nobody bothered even pretending to be enforcing the drinking age), plus all the Snow White references (some of them to the Disney version, as peapod05 notes). What it all means has me completely confused, though. (Obviously that math PhD doesn't really mean I'm all that brilliant! People are way too impressed by that.)

I think it could be drugs, like some people I've talked to (and obviously some here too) think, but it could also be something to do with sex (isn't everything, after all? <g>).

A lot of Cure songs are in the first person but obviously don't represent a perspective that RS agrees with. Just about the only thing I can say for certain about this song is that it's definitely one of them (so no worries, seanstuarthome!).

The Cure has been my favourite band since I first discovered them, in 1987 or '88 (it was sometime after (Kiss Me)^3 came out — I heard the song "How Beautiful You Are" and bugged my mother until she agreed to take me to the record store the next day so I could get the album — but before Disintegration) but I've been impressed by a lot of their later stuff too (post-Wild Mood Swings). I know a number of people who love their earlier stuff but think they've been going downhill since sometime in the '90s or so. I disagree. I'm always so amazed when I think about how long they've been living this exhausting lifestyle (touring, super high expectations, etc.) and still seem to have so much energy and creativity and stuff.
