Vampire Lyrics

Who is the fly in your champagne?
Who's got the body and who's got the brain?
I'll take your blood and I'll kill my pain
You are the one that I desire
You are the dark, I'm the vampire

Who is the spy in your campaign?
Is it the wife or is it your advisor?
I wanna suck the blood from their veins
You are the one that I despise
You are the light, I'm the vampire

Oh, you know you never found an easy way
Oh, but you know you wanna
Ride the new wave

Who is the fly in your champagne?
Who's got the body and who's got the brain?
Let me taste your blood 'cause I'm in pain
You are the one that I desire
You are the dark, I'm the vampire

Women and children hold this flame
You're none the wiser, you're not to blame
Stick 'em in a casket next to mine
Then we will see who is a liar
Then we will see the vampire

Oh, you know you never found and easy way
'Cause in your head, the devil says
When it's over
'Cause I'm like you, it's got me too
Now it's over

Who is the fly in your champagne?
Who's got the body and who's got the brain?

I'll take your blood and and I'll kill my pain
You are the one that I desire
You are the dark, I'm the vampire

Cover art for Vampire lyrics by People In Planes

I believe this song is about a depressed man reaching out to a stronger woman(or the opposite). The man intends to "feed" on the woman's happiness and use that happiness vicariously in order to keep him happy. Dating a depressed person can be very taxing on the sane one in the relationship. I believe this is where the vampire metaphor is applicable. "let me taste your blood 'cause I'm in pain." could translate to "let me use your happiness to overshadow my sorrow." When two people are in love, they tend to sympathize with each other's pain or happiness to a degree. This means that if one person in the relationship is much happier than the other, they will get dragged down into more sorrow and the other will be uplifted. A vampire feeds on the blood of an innocent and benefits from it, while the victim suffers. The victim in this scenario, is the strong-minded woman/man that agrees to grow close to the afflicted one.
