The Day I Lost My Voice (The Suitcase Song) Lyrics

As sure as the floor 'neath my toes,
And somehow not surprised,
That I was superimposed
Somehow in this life.
And if my friends and my foes
Would just drop me a line
That'd be nice

You see love is a drink
That goes straight to my head
And time is a lover
And I'm caught in her stead
And the sentiment there follows me
Straight to my bed
Through the night

I've got my life in a suitcase
I'm ready to run run run away
I got no time cause I'm always
Trying to run run run away
Cause everyday *when it* feels like it's only a game
I've got my life in a suitcase, a suitcase, a suitcase
A suitcase

What could be an anchor here,
With a storm on the rise,
When you never meant to see so clear,
When smoke gets in your eyes
And the man in the moon
Never makes his replies understood

I've got my life in a suitcase
I'm ready to run run run away
I got no time cause I'm always
Trying to run run run away
Cause everyday *when it* feels like it's only a game
I've got my life in a suitcase, a suitcase, a suitcase

For a moment I was warm and the world made sense
For a moment in this storm made of consequence

I've got my life in a suitcase
I'm ready to run run run away
I got no time cause I'm always
Trying to run run run away
Cause everyday *when it* feels like it's only a game
I've got my life in a suitcase, a suitcase, a suitcase
A suitcase

I'm not sure if anybody even comes here anymore, but I really feel like this song is about depression.

When you're depressed you tend to (or at least I tend to) feel like running away and leaving everything behind. In the beginning of the song he describes how strange and distant he feels as compared to the rest of the world ("that I was superimposed somehow in this life"). And this loneliness makes him wish his friends would call him to remind him of his existence in reality.

And when he says he has "no time", it's because he's too busy comtemplating running away from reality. And when he says "what could be an anchor here with a storm on the rise" he's desperately searching for something to hold on to while his depression takes over, something to keep him from running away for real.

It's

It's sure as the floor 'neath my toes And somehow not surprised That I was superimposed, somehow in this life And if my friends and my foes would just drop me a line, it'd be nice.

And then: I've got my life in a suitcase, I'm ready to run, run, run away.. I've got no time, 'cause I'm always trying to run, run, run away 'Cause everyday in here feels like it's only a game. I've got my life in a suitcase, a suitcase, a suitcase...

Then: What could be an anchor here, with a storm on the rise, When you never meant to see so clear, when smoke gets in your eyes And the men in the moon never makes his replies Understood

To me, this song is about being lost. You are too busy worrying about trying to be found that you can't even stop and find yourself. All you have is your suitcase, a container that houses your memories of a time when things made sense and you could sit down and breathe.

I like this song. I'd like it a little more if it wasn't that girl's vocals briefly in the song...
