Pen & Paper Lyrics

This whole routine is getting old
So am I, and so are you
My reputation lets me know, that I can do whatever I want to
Though it seems that you believe you can do whatever it is you please

Now before, now before you wind up on your knees

Don't cry to me...no more
You like the way the people stare at you now
You look so fake, just thought that you should know
And your all the same and when the curtain drops down
You'll be replaced by something typical

You set yourself up to be sold
And that's okay cause that's your role
Manipulation takes it toll
What will you do when nobody wants you?
Though it seems that you may live
You can do whatever it is you please

Not before, not before you wind up on your knees

Don't cry to me...no more
You like the way the people stare at you now
You look so fake, just thought that you should know
And your all the same and when the curtain drops down
You'll be replaced by something typical

I know I spent so long beside you
And I know I should have left you right where I had found you
I know I spent so long beside you
And I know I should have left you right where I had found you

You like the way the people stare at you now
You look so fake, just thought that you should know
And your all the same and when the curtain drops down
You'll be replaced by something typical

You like the way the people stare at you now
You look so fake, just thought that you should know
And your all the same and when the curtain drops down
You'll be replaced by something typical

amazing song. i think its about a person who changed ALOT. and everyone thinks theyre a joke. so, now hes saying; dont cry to me, anymore. i dont want you.

or maybe a girl. who's left him. many times and keeps coming back everytime she has the tiniest problem with her new bfs and stuff. so, he's kind of like the rebound. so, he woke up and realized that. so he's telling her... go away. dont come crawling back to me.

simple as that :]

i think the song is pure genius :)

i think it might be about groupies of rock bands. That theme fits in with a lot of the lyrics, though not all of them so i may be wrong

I can relate this song to a close friend who has fall victim to peers by so-called "cool kids" and now the person's thinking of him as a fake.

I think this song is about the lead singers past and present girlfriends, and how they think they're the greatest and so lucky when walking around with the lead singer on her arm. people stare now, but before they didn't cause she was just an ordinary girl.

Like he says "this whole routine is getting old", and "you're all the same", so that's him thinking "this is happening too many times, all these girls are the same.

"You like the way the people stare at you now, You look so fake..." is when he's talking about how the girls always get caught up in his fame, and are not dedicated to him as a person.

"You set yourself up to be sold, And that's okay 'cause that's your role, Manipulation takes it toll, What will you do when nobody wants you?" is him saying how the girls are always trying to be "sold", like in a magazine, news article, interview or in photos taken by the paparazzi. And he's saying that it's okay and he's accepting it because that's just their role, because that's what they all do. And then he's saying the consequences of the gf's actions, like him dumping her, and he's just like asking 'what will they do when nobody wants you?', because nobody will even care about the girl now that she's not with someone in a famous band.

"I know I stood so long beside you, And I know I should have left you right where I had found you" is where he's saying he regrets staying with her so long when he knew she wasn't in it for him but his status, and he's wishing he had never gotten into a relationship with her because this sort of thing always happens, and he's only wasting his time.

actually it is very well known that this song is about the band's past history with labels and getting shot down, and about people who just don't give a shit about anything, this is a song to send down their throats.

I like the new cd, especially this song. I saw these guys like 2 months after this album came out and ronnie was talking about Duke looking like Jesus lol They're good guys, but their cd is not Christian, Christian influenced, but they're still the same dudes....
