Over and Over Lyrics

I really thought I was okay.
I really thought I was just fine,
But when I woke this time,
There was nothing to take me back to sleep,
To take you off my mind
This time.

I keep saying over and over and over and over again
Let it rain, let it rain.
Over and over and over and over again,
Let it rain, let it rain.

I need to hide within a storm
So have the lightning come,
And bring the winds that scream
And spill the fog all over town

And hold me in your stand still ground.
And I will sink down, and you'll be washed away.
You'll be washed away.

Over and over and over and over again,
Let it rain, let it rain.
Over and over and over and over again,
Let it rain, let it rain.

I really thought I was okay.
I really thought I was just fine.
But when I woke up this time,
There was nothing to take you off my mind.

over and over and over and over again
Let it rain, let it rain.
Over and over and over and over again,
Let it rain, let it rain.

I need to hide within a storm
So have the lightning come,
And bring the winds that scream,
Spill the fog all over town.

And break down my door
And strip away the trees,
And raise the rivers high.
Just help me drown
And hold me in your stand-still ground.

And I will sink down, and you'll be washed away.
You'll be washed away.

In order to forget him, she needs to give up a part of herself because they used to be so close that he is like a part of her. She has to stand in the rain and let the heavy rain take the sad (and happy) memories with him away. “I will sink down/ And you’ll be washed away/You’ll be washed away” means that only when she sinks and a part of her disappears can she totally forget him. She’ll give up this part of her soul as a gift of his funeral (of course metaphorically). After this ceremony, hopefully he will be washed away, so that she can finally continue her life without him. My Interpretation

I can listen to this song on repeat all night long. It's about the need for a catharsis of sorts, to wake up one day and realize that you need a new beginning, and not just hurt yourself the same way, with the same guy, over and over again.

I think this song is about how someone thinks they're just fine, but when something terrible happens they need a special someone to be with them.

Some of the lyrics are off:

I need to hide within the storm So have the lightning come And bring the winds that scream Spill the fog all over town And break through every door And strip away the trees And raise the rivers high Just help me drown And hold me in your standstill ground I will sink down And you'll be washed away You'll be washed away
