Ones to Hang on to

Had a good hang with a friend last night,
downed a bottle of cabernet .
Nothing too expensive, just a liter of the cheap stuff,
to let reality slip away.
And I learned
Some people come few and far between,
some people come once and a while,
Some you let just slip away,
while others never will.
We talked about promotions and financial strains,
and how to make means to an end,
And how living with regrets and doubtful situations
makes us forget our dreams now and again.
Another glass gone, the smiles grew wider,
but not due to the alcohol.
You see we hadn't seen each other in a while,
and enjoyed talking about anything at all.

Some you let just slip away,
while others never will.
And still we try to hold on to
the ones we thought we'd never be apart from.
And still we try harder than we should have to try
to find the ones to hold on to.
