We are just the monkeys, who fell out of the trees
We are blisters on the earth
We are not the flowers, we're the strangling weeds
In the meadow
And love is just our way of looking out for ourselves
When we don't want to live alone
So step into the vacuum, tear off your clothes
And be born again
Pretend that you're alone now
And everything's gone
Just animal reflex
There's no one looking on
Forget about fashion
Forget about the law
Pretend that you're alone now
I wonder what I'd do, if I could wake up every morning
With a clean slate
I'd burn through the cities, I'd tear through the towns
'Cos there's no deals to make
So break out of the cages, the delicate structures
We cling to all our lives
'Cos we are just the monkeys, who fell out of the trees
When we were trying to fly
Pretend that you're alone now
And everything's gone
Just primal desire
No right and no wrong
Forget about the future
Forget about blame
Pretend that you're alone now
Pretend that you're alone now
She's not waiting for tomorrow
And she has no love in her eyes
Oh no, I wanna come down right now
But oh no, I wanna get out right now
Oh oh!
Pretend that you're alone now
And everything's gone
Just animal reflex
There's no one looking on
Forget about religion
Forget about shame
Pretend that you're alone now
No numbers in your phone now
There's nothing going on
Just primal desire
No right and no wrong
Forget about fashion
Forget about fame
Pretend that you're alone now [Repeat: x3]
Do, do, do, do
We are blisters on the earth
We are not the flowers, we're the strangling weeds
In the meadow
And love is just our way of looking out for ourselves
When we don't want to live alone
So step into the vacuum, tear off your clothes
And be born again
Pretend that you're alone now
And everything's gone
Just animal reflex
There's no one looking on
Forget about fashion
Forget about the law
Pretend that you're alone now

When we don't want to live alone" kind of turned me off this song because of how absolutely cynical and jaded it sounds.
I know it may just be me, or it may be that i'm not cynical enough, or simply that i'm interpreting this wrong, like this was written because he felt cynical after having his heart broken, but something about him saying "Basically, there is no such thing as true love, it's something we as humans have made up from selfish instinct." made me completely unable to connect with this, because I think of love as the most unselfish thing out there.
Still an absolutely great band, though. Just not a fan of this song.
1) We're just animals, an upgrade of monkeys. But we're not fully developped yet.
2) Love is not a big deal, we just use it not to be alone. So whatever, love is not important, fuck it.
3) Now pretend that everything we've built, everything that opresses us, all those rules are gone. You're free.
4) If nothing was important, i would destroy all those rules to reach freedom, it wouldnt be a big deal.
5) So why wouldnt we do that? Just get rid of everything and live free without anything/anyone to care about.
6) *tricky part, but heres my guess* The fact that it's a "she" would mean there's a relationship with the one who talks. If the one who talks has expressed its feelings about being free and all that, she may be desperate because she thinks he doesnt care about her (?).
7) He realises that living the dream of being free would mean living without her. He doesnt want that so he wants to get out of his dream.
So break out of the cages,
The delicate structures we cling to all our lives
'Cause we are just the monkeys
Who fell out of the trees when we were trying to fly
-----> break all the law and theory that exist, that's all nonsense, we're just animal, evolution of monkeys, we're just animal, we're alone.
the right song in the right album, Perfect Symmetry; the album about dehumanization,. yeah we're spiraling.
or maybe just kinky sex.
