I wish that I could be
In the cellars of the sea
And disappear in them
Never to be seen again

Live this life
Its unrelenting appetite
For feeding off the weak
Who never had their time to speak

The sky will be my shroud
A monumental cloud

If we could turn back, you can't paper over the crack
But it will return now, and your heart will burn black

Give me your hand
Cut the skin, let me in
The molecules of us
Bleeding into one again

The sky will be my shroud
The cenotaph of cloud

If we could turn back, you can't paper over the crack
But it will return now, and your heart will burn black
Forgotten my way home, forgotten everything that I know
Every day a false start, and it burns my heart
I know

Everything you said was right, and I suppose
Everything is here forever, till it goes
You gave it all away, kept nothing for yourself
Just a picture on the shelf

Burning up now
And I'm racing down a road I don't recognize
I realize I've

Forgotten my way home, forgotten everything that I know
Every day a false start, and it burns my heart
Turn black

General Commentkeane has written and performed some amazing songs...classics to everyone who has the pleasure of knowing what keane is all about..but this song...wow...beyond words...as for the meaning it can be interpted in so many ways..but how profound they are...i think its a continuation of the under the iron sea album...takes the same way, but this is truly why keane is beyond amazing...

General CommentHmmm, I think this song is about drugs and the inability to escape their appeal.

In the first and second verse there is a feeling of wanting to escape the world and the need to hide away from everything, perhaps because they are weak and cannot survive without a numbness to reality.

The user realises though that what they are doing is not right and attempts to quit and turn back but doesn't know how to (forgetting their way home and everything they know) and eventually they turn back to drugs.

A complicated song, but simply brilliant.

General CommentI personally think it's about the frustations of life & death

I wish that I could be
In the cellars of the sea
    I'd disappear and I'm
    Never to be seen again

(it will be better if we could just disapear into a cell on the sea)

    If we could turn back
You can paper over the crack
    But it will return now
And your heart will burn black

(when we die we wish we could go back, but we just couldnt, we'll see ourselves on a big screen, we'll be returned to the past from the day we're born, watch ourselves making so many mistakes.. we could only regret them.)

General CommentWhat a perfect song! So emotional, so sentimental, great touch with the synth! That's just a damn great song! LOVE IT!!
Dunno what it mean, I think it mean a lot of things, it's so mystical and beatiful that I prefer the meaning untouched for now =D

General CommentThe part in french is missing. Lucky you i speak french :)
"Je souhaiterais m'immerger dans les profondeurs des mers
Et disparaître pour ne plus jamais être vu"
It is in fact the translation of the first verse (I wish that I could be in the cellars of the sea and disappear and I'm never to be seen again)
I wonder who says that part? It's well pronounced, sounds like a french speaker.

Don't have the time to really think about the lyrics. Any idea?

    General CommentI think its:

    "I know
Everything you said was right and I suppose
Everything is here FOREVER TILL IT GOES
You gave it all away, kept nothing for yourself
Just a picture on a shelf"

    And

    "Forgotten my way home
    Forgotten everything that i know
    Every day a FALSE start
    And it burns my heart"

    as for the meaning.. dunno..

General CommentThere are many mistakes in the lyrics provided. Here are the correct lyrics:

I wish that I could be
In the cellars of the sea
    And disappear in them
    Never to be seen again

    Leave this life
    It's unrelenting appetite
    For feeding off the weak
Who never had their turn to speak

The sky will be my shroud
    A monument of cloud

    If we could turn back
You can paper over the crack
    But it will return now
And your heart will burn black

    Give me your hand
Cut the skin, let me in
    The molecules of us
    Bleeding into one again

The sky will be my shroud
    A cenotaph of cloud

    If we could turn back
You can paper over the crack
    But it will return now
And your heart will burn black
    Forgotten my way home
    Forgotten everything that I know
    Every day a false start
    And it burns my heart

I know everything you said was right and I suppose
Everything is here forever till it goes
You gave it all away, kept nothing for yourself
Just a picture on the shelf

Je souhaiterai m'immerger dans les profondeurs des mers
Y disparaître pour ne plus jamais être vu

    Burning up
    Now I'm racing down a road I don't recognise
I realise I've forgotten my way home
    Forgotten everything that I know
    Every day a false start
    And it burns my heart

    Turn back

General CommentOh, French! I love this song even more! :D And well, it says on Wikipedia that the "french vocal (on 'Black Burning Heart')" were said by Anaël Train.

Anyways, a lovely song. I just can't figure out what it means...
