Blackout Lyrics
I just drove under the Lincoln sign
To where New Jersey meets the New York line
And through the tunnel for the last time
With everything crumbling behind
I stood still until I felt the shakes
Of two bodies that were parting ways
I didn’t want to be the one to say
I know this hurts but it’s time to break
In two pieces
The boat line’s not secure
I’ll burn a bridge if needed
To get back to her
I feel like I’m paralyzed
When I look at
The absent space left in my bed
And think about all the things we did
At least I’m feeling more alive
But I still have some of my pain I’ve got to shed
Before I find happiness
I make moats out of memories
And I plant pain Instead of sturdy trees
I have got to wash these old sheets
So I can fall asleep
There are times, there are times I reach for the phone
To tell you that there might still be some hope
Holding on, holding on to this slack of rope
But that’s the whiskey talking so
I hope that you can find some peace in life
Can you survive without me?
Cause I thought I’d be fine
Now I’m slurring every single line
I feel like I’m paralyzed
When I look at
The absent space left in my bed
And think about all the things we did
At least I’m feeling more alive
But I still have some of my pain I’ve got to shed
I’ve got to move on before I can find happiness
This isn’t fair nobody taught me (how to let go)
Just be here now and don’t be set free (From sorrow)
But at this time I don’t see clearly (how will I know)
What is the point, what is the meaning (how to let go)
Now is our goodbye
A blackout so I can dream
But I still see you sneaking through my weary head
I suffer from a drought of medicine to dull self-doubt
I just want to drown you out
With southern poison
If I had a drink
For every goddamn I think
About your pale skin dressed in pink
Then at least I could sleep
If I had a shot
For every goddamn time I thought
About your face and what I’d lost
At least I’d get some sleep, sleep, sleep
At least I’d get some sleep, sleep, sleep
Then at least I’d get some sleep
To where New Jersey meets the New York line
And through the tunnel for the last time

This song is absolutley amazing. Buddy's voice sounds fantastic, and his lyrics have only gotten better. The very end is the best. It slows down to a muted guitar. I know exactly what he feels like. It's about trying to forget someone who you spent a lot of time with and really loved, and just constantly missing them. That's my take on it. Awesome album...well worth the wait!
This is the end of the album, where it all comes to a climax. Buddy is free. He is a little nervous to be completely free, now with out any affection, but he will make it through.
He is now thinking about the positives, trying to push out the bad things, he is trying to ease up on drinking and thoughs of sucide, but it isnt going well.
I believe its an open ending story to start up a whole new starting to a new album
You do make a good point. I never even thought about that. I really love this album. It's a little different but it's so good.
WOW
love senses fail, but its just too similar to boys like girls - hero/heroine
i think its "Just Be here now and ill be set free(From Sorrow)"
idk makes more sense to me i think Finch got it. great song! :)
such amazing opening lyrics on this song
The lyrics are a little bit off. Towards the end he says
"Now I'm struggling. I black out so I can't dream But I still see you sneaking through my weary head"
It's straight from the booklet. Please fix and thank you :)
i love this song,.,has to be my favorite on the album other than fireworks at dawn...
but i think they go hand in hand...
like throughout the whole cd he is struggling to move forward and let go...(its a problem everyone clearly has) and finally this song at the end puts everything in prespective on just how far hes gotten.
like its kinda the "final struggle" in his battle with letting go and sorting out his life and emotional downfalls.
in the end he ends up understanding more than ever...like dude this hurts more than you can imagine and yea i have to drink to it out of my system... but he does what he needs to...
"I just want to drown you out With southern poison If I had a drink For every goddamn I think About your pale skin dressed in pink Then at least I could sleep If I had a shot For every goddamn time I thought About your face and what I’d lost At least I’d get some sleep"
gotta be the best lines.
in the first verse where it says "i'll burn a bridge if needed to get back to her"
in the first verse where it says "i'll burn a bridge if needed to get back to her"
from the booklet it says "a boat or bridge needed to get back her"
from the booklet it says "a boat or bridge needed to get back her"
but from what these lyrics says sounds right and the booklet sounds wrong lol =x

Haha turrtleboy that's exactly what i thought the first time i heard this song. The chorus sounds almost exactly like Hero/Heroine,but i still love this song. Its probably Buddy's best vocal performance on the album. It def sounds like its about trying to get over a loved one. Very good engding to a very good song.
