Reckoner (Radiohead cover) Lyrics
Reckoner
You can’t take it with you
Dancing for your pleasure
You are not to blame for
Bittersweet distracter
Dare not speak its name
Dedicated to all human beings
Because we separate like ripples on a blank shore
In rainbows
Because we separate like ripples on a blank shore
Reckoner
Take me with you
Dedicated to all human beings
You can’t take it with you
Dancing for your pleasure
Bittersweet distracter
Dare not speak its name
Dedicated to all human beings
In rainbows
Because we separate like ripples on a blank shore
Take me with you
Dedicated to all human beings

This song is about Death, the final reckoning. Death is described as the "Reckoner". The Reckoner is dedicated to the separation of all human beings from one another, similar to the separation of ripples on a blank shore... being death's shore-death being described as a blank nothingness. Clearly no room for a belief in some form of an afterlife here. It's blank nothingness-a blank shore where we separate from all that we love... We cannot take anything we now cherish with us in death... (money, loved ones, fame)... "You can't take it with yer.." Towards the end of the song is the siren call of all human beings towards their dying loved ones "Take me with yer!" Sometimes when the Reckoner takes our loved ones we miss them so much we wish to follow them into that abyss because of our attachment to them. Alas, we all separate like ripples on death's blank shore... There is no stopping it.
Love this version of the song. It is a real challenge to cover a song that is so radiohead-style as this, but I think Gnarls does it so well.
I hate this cover... Thom Yorke Rocks! How can Gnarls Barkley spoil the sense behind this song?!
