Field of Daggers Lyrics
In this unending war, I've lost so many brothers.
The coldest hours come before morning.
With every drop of blood,
Spilled in this field of daggers,
Bring many sons of heaven to glory.
Until Your rains, O God,
Bring forth Your colored beauty,
Confirm the hopes of nations in longing.
I see a new day coming.
Maybe tomorrow.
Woe to the king of nothing.
I see a new day coming!
Maybe tomorrow...
Woe to the king of nothing.
I see a clean blood running,
Brothers of sorrow.
Here is your kingdom coming!
Here is your kingdom coming!
Spread wide Your wings, O God,
Relieve this scarlet fever,
Catch every tear of mothers in mourning.
Bring life to tired hopes,
Buried in fields of flowers,
Bring many sons of battle to glory.
With every drop of blood,
Caged in this tired body,
I long to bring my father to glory.
I see a new day coming!
Maybe tomorrow...
Woe to the king of nothing.
I see a clean blood running,
Brothers of sorrow.
Here is your kingdom coming!
Here is your kingdom coming!
(Who holds the key?)
He was and is.
He is and is to come.
He was and is.
He is and is to come.
He holds the key.

great song. very epic. it's so theatrical. it belongs in a movie. that seems to be their style throughout this whole album.
I think House of Heroes is pointing out the darkness in the world with its persecution and destruction of innocence: "I see a clean blood running". I think this is a song of hope. "Woe to the king of nothing" (watch out Satan cause a new day is coming and a new kingdom is coming).
There is such a deep longing in many of the House of Heroes songs to change the world we live in now and remove the darkness and the corruption. Spread wide Your wings, O God, Relieve this scarlet fever, Catch every tear of mothers in mourning. Bring life to tired hopes, Buried in fields of flowers, Bring many sons of battle to glory. With every drop of blood, Caged in this tired body, I long to bring my father to glory.
Of course the "Who was and is and is to come" refers to Jesus Christ who will come and reign and end the darkness on this earth. As a matter of fact, he started that with the crucifixion, is continuing it through each of us (hence "I Long to bring my Father to glory") after the resurrection, and will finish it in the end. There is a new day coming
So, if anyone knows what the title of the bonus song that's tacked onto the end of this song (on the CD) is, I'd love to know. :)
its called The Young and The Brutal
Thank you very much. ^_^
I don't know exactly what the entire song could mean, but the lines:
"With every drop of blood, Caged in this tired body, I long to bring my father to glory."
and
"I see a clean blood running, Brothers of sorrow. Here is your kingdom coming!"
stir up an image of the crucifixion of Jesus.
I'm not so sure it's crucifiction... this whole album has a war theme. It almost sounds like it's from a soldier's perspeective.
This part though: He was and is. He is and is to come. He was and is. He is and is to come. He holds the key.
I'm not sure why it's there. It's obviously talking about God, but it doesn't seem to fit.
I see it as a soldier, in the darkest hour of war, crying out to God that there must be more than this cruel world of suffering. The people who try to gain power in this world only find success through wars, suffering, taking advantage of others. I pictured a soldier looking out over a corpse-strewn battlefield while singing the haunting line "Here is your kingdom coming." Because if we make our kingdom in this world, that's all the kingdom we will get. But this particular soldier can see that God has a far better kingdom for him. While he anguishes over the suffering of this fallen world, he knows that there is a God, one who "was and is and is and is to come."
Great, great, powerful song!
Along with the war/WWII-like theme of the album, it seems to relate to end times and when Christ will come and establish His kingdom.

He was and is. He is and is to come. [straight from Revelation in the Bible.]

It talks about the battles and the struggles on earth, and how the earth is longing for Christ to come.

theres a part in the bible that talks about how God was, is and is to come and because theyre talking about the crucifixion, its very very relevant to the fact that God triumphed.
I actually want to get a tattoo that says woe to the king of nothing :) cos lucifer can suck it :)
its a song about how life is like a war and him loseing "so many brothers" means he has seen so many people fall away from god's plan for their lives oh and al;so its part about his healing power and his reward when we come out of this war and the
He was and is. He is and is to come. He was and is. He is and is to come. He holds the key.
