Love is Hard Lyrics
I see lovers in the streets
Walking without a care
They wear it out loud
Like there's something in the air
Oh well, I don't care
They're treading lightly
No, they don't sink in
There's no tracks to follow
They don't care where they're going
And if they're lucky, yeah they'll
They'll get to see
And if they're really, really lucky
They'll get to feel
And it kicks so hard
It breaks your bones
Cuts so deep
It hits your soul
Tears your skin
And makes your blood flow
It's better that you know
That love is hard
Love takes hostages
And gives them pain
Gives someone the power
To hurt you again and again
Oh, but they don't care
And if they're lucky, yeah they'll
They'll get to see
And if they're really, really lucky
Then they'll get to feel
And if they're, they're truly blessed
Then they'll get to believe
And if you're damned
You'll never let yourself be deceived
And it kicks so hard
It breaks your bones
Cuts so deep
It hits your soul
Tears your skin
And makes your blood flow
It's better that you know
That love is hard
It kicks so hard
It breaks your bones
Cuts so deep
It hits your soul
Tears your skin
And makes your blood flow
It's better that you know
It kicks so hard
It breaks your bones
It cuts so deep
It hits your soul
Tears your skin
And makes your blood flow
It's better that you know
That love is hard
Love is hard
Love is hard
If it was easy, it wouldn't mean nothing, no
Walking without a care
They wear it out loud
Like there's something in the air
Oh well, I don't care
No, they don't sink in
There's no tracks to follow
They don't care where they're going
And if they're lucky, yeah they'll
They'll get to see

Kinda straightforward, isn't it? He's warning those lovers in the streets that love may become a lot harder than they think. Young lovers may feel like the best time of their life just started, but eventually it will go wrong and they will see that love can be a bitch. I really like the final line.
I don't know if it's so much a warning about the pains of love (yeah that is the title) moreso than it is actually talking about how good it is. Sometimes you have to walk throught the muck and mire or pain and torment and when you come out of it, it's all worth it. "If it was easy, it wouldn't mean nothing, no". I've been through the hard times, bitterness of breakups, heartache...but when you find the one person you appreciate walking those steps.

Yeah, James Morrison just sums up love is this wonderful song.
This is one of my favorites on the CD, I love the simple guitar in the beginning. I could've sworn I heard it before somewhere, like on a commercial or something... He said he wrote this song to kind of warn his daughter.
He sees the couples strolling nonchalantly in the streets, oblivious to their surrounds and wrapped up in each other..he is attempting to warm them what their love might do to them but thats the thing, it doesn't matter to them. Love might be hard and taking a risk, but it doesn't matter, they're happy in the moment having each other
