Great song, got the studio version now so even better. Corrections I can hear;

Then over the end it sounds like "Carry your weight, let the weight carry you/union." So maybe somebody else has ideas.

I get the impression this song is about a friend who has gone off the rails perhaps with drugs? and orlando is saying he isnt helping but not saying anything bad about him, by saying nothing at all?

Could be completley wrong, but i thought id have a crack at it.

I think Orlando is talking about a friend who has lost it. Not knowing what say, he takes the stand off approach.

but it also sounds like he is either defending his friend against someone, or maybe himself, I'm not sure.

Its a good song though.

One of The Maccabees did enter rehab in 2008 I believe it was the original drummer so this was the song is likely to be about I would imagine.

This song is about an unplanned teenage pregnancy. No kinds words - is explaining the things he wants to tell the mother, but wont.

I'm sorry but i don't think that what he is saying is

If you've got no kind words to say You should say nothing more at all

But instead

If you've got no kind words to say You should say nothing MORTAL

The singer has a friend that is messing around with somebody he doesn't care for, tempting disaster

He doesn't want to get involve, and even though it is physically showing his rejection for their union, and he defends himself on it

Here is where it can get tricky, there might be a deep scar on the friend that he doesn't care about the consequences, and even though he is united with somebody, he is still alone

Here is the singer excuses to not get involve, he doesn't want to damage his friendship and carry that weight with him, let it be is his resolution. So when he is saying You Should Say Nothing Mortal, he is talking to himself.

Amazing song! It was fun analyzing it, but that's what my interpretation of it :-)

Orlando told me in an interview that it wasn't about Rob, the drummer who left and has now kicked the booze and drugs, but that's what i thought it was about.

Firebrand drummer Rob left in a cloud of personal problems. Listening to No Kind Words it sounds like it could be about him, but Orland is firm. “No,” says Orlando like a man who doesn’t want to talk about it. “It’s about another friend who wasn’t having a very good time.”
