Hawaiian Robots Lyrics

I could barely recognise myself sitting here, for question
I was trying to guess my name and my favourite colour
But your guess is as good as mine
We had an idea, a brilliant idea
washed in fluorescent light
But the light here was good and i can taste the food
And i'm better off, i'm better off

I'm better off as a robot, I'm better off in hawaii (x4)

I could barely recognise myself sitting there, like a patient
I was trying to work out who was you and who was me
And how this happened
I got an idea, a brilliant idea
Hiding in my boat somewhere
I'll be writing in the sand with a battery in my hand
to keep them going, and I'll be better off

I'm better off as a robot, I'm better off in Hawaii (x4)

i can't believe this song has NO comments. it's amazing!!

i think to be saying that you're "better off as a robot" is saying that it is better for you to be incapable of human interaction and deep emotion and relationships. & to "be better off in Hawaii" is saying that you should be cut off from the world, from everybody else, be somewhere far away.

so it seems to be that this person has caused damage to others, or some damage has been inflicted upon him, by way of other people. i'm not sure what the verses mean, though, but it's beautiful songwriting nonetheless.
