Sweet Dream

This is one of my favorite songs from him. He mentioned when I saw him perform, that he gets that a lot from people, but they hate how it's so short. He said he's tried to write more versus, but can't because nothing is good enough for the song.

I believe it's "With sunshine and warmth to blame" ... as in, he's blaming something that most everyone considers beautiful for waking him up because he's dreaming of something even more beautiful.

So, I had swine flu. I was extremely sick and in bed. I was feeling horrible. But the boy I was in love with, he sent me this song. And then he told me he loved me. :) Anyways, this song is gorgeous. It's basically about him seeing something in a dream, that he needs, and misses, and the dream is perfect, but then he wakes up, and it's all gone...

Like PiratePrincess, I got this song sent to me by the man I love.. But he's married. I interpret the a bit different. The girl he sings about is just a dream, and then he wakes up to reality. And she is gone (does not play a part in real life so to say..). May be a bit on the pessimistic side. But aren't most songs multi-interpretable?

It's not about a girl being a dream or seeing something in a dream, it's about him writing his own dream (see line one). What he's saying to this girl is that if he could choose what he dreams about it would be her. If he could decide what his dreams would be about they wouldn't be about flying or driving fast cars or living in big houses, they would be about seeing and holding the woman he loves. If the girl he loves is already "his," then the song means that even though he's around her all the time/lives with her/is married to her, even in his dreams he wants to be with her. However, since he says that the end of the ending of the dream is "cruel" it probably means that the one he loves is either far away or doesn't love him back. Either way he loves her very much.

I love how short the song is. Just like the dream, you wish it would go on, but it doesn't... it just cuts off too soon and leaves you wanting more.

This tune was used to close an episode of Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" (S01E06, "Man on the Street"). It's weird to say this about something as typically banal as a episode from a TV serial, but that story soars as high as the best of Philip K. Dick... and the use of this song at the end of the episode is utterly heartbreaking. If you like this tune, check out that story and shed a tear.
