Golden Gate Jumpers Lyrics
Think fog rolls in waves
on the Golden Gate
I was checking my watch
seven minutes in my shift
When I spot a black skirt on the rail
Straddling the bar like its a quarter a ride...
She's scared to jump terrified to stayed
walked to her slow extend my hand with a smile and say:
"M'am how was your day?
Keep your eyes on my face
I want to help you if you let me"
She starled
I look forward
Wrap my arms 'round her legs
Pull her down to the side--walk
We're both heaving for air, and I say:
"M'am how was your day?
Keep your eyes on my face
I want to help you if you let me"
Most folks think they'll hit
the surface and never feel no pain
Water pulls you under
Back to the womb once again
Bodies float to the shore
Bloated but in mood (?)
If sharks don't get you first
Crabs will have their way with you
on the Golden Gate
I was checking my watch
seven minutes in my shift
When I spot a black skirt on the rail
Straddling the bar like its a quarter a ride...
She's scared to jump terrified to stayed
walked to her slow extend my hand with a smile and say:
"M'am how was your day?
Keep your eyes on my face
I want to help you if you let me"
I look forward
Wrap my arms 'round her legs
Pull her down to the side--walk
We're both heaving for air, and I say:
"M'am how was your day?
Keep your eyes on my face
I want to help you if you let me"

Thick fog rolls in waves on the Golden Gate. I was checking my watch with 7 minutes in my shift, when I spot a black skirt on the rail. Straddling the bar like it's a quarter a ride. She's scared to jump, but terrified to stay. Walk to her slow, extend my hand with a smile and say, "Ma'am how was your day? Keep your eyes on my face! I want to help you if you'll let me." She's startled, I look forward. Wrap my arms around her legs. Pull her down to the sidewalk, we're both heaving for air and I say, Most folks think they'll hit the surface and never feel no pain.
Water pulls you under. Back to the womb once again. Bodies float to the shore. Bloated purple and blue If sharks don't get to you first, Crabs will have their way with you.

Lots of mistakes in these lyrics
mistakes in the lyrics, yes...but still. such a beautifully sad song this is!
saddest line, but i just like it is: "She's scared to jump, but terrified to stay"
that chord progression in the third part of the song on the piano...where is it also used? its driving me mad because it sounds so good and i recognize it from somewhere!
haha...
First off, I love this song. The way its composed reminds me of Pencil Thin Mustache by Jimmy Buffet. But thats where the similarities end for me.
it's about suicide.
cold war kids are genius.
wow this songs intense. the golden gate is so beautiful yet marred by suicides....
I really love this song, but once I figured out it was about suicide it was harder to listen to, which I think means it is very well written. It has an eeriness to it. It is about a man used to saving people from attempting suicide. I think from his perspective we see the pang of his job. It is about his job dealing with people trying to commit suicide-not just suicide.
