Venus In Cancer Lyrics

Girl in the phone-box
In my home
Right from the first start
In my bones
I haven’t got time
You ask
What you here for?
Take me to the back room
And open the door

It’s all I care about
And I found
It’s all I hear about

I can’t figure out what
I wanna wait for
I forged all the answers
And now I want more
I won’t step back and watch
What I paid for
Wait until the mask’s off
And take it too far

Its all I care about
And I found
Its all I hear about

Straight from the camera
In my heart
Forged all the answers
Right from the start
I haven’t got time
You ask
What you here for?
I won’t step back and watch
What I paid for

ACTUAL LYRICS

Girl in the phone box near to my home Right from the first stop into my bones I havn’t got time to ask what you’re here for Take me to the back room and lock the door

It’s all I care about And I found it’s all I’m here about

I can’t figure out what I wanna wait for I forged all the answers and now I want more I wont stand back and watch what I paid for Wait until the last move and take it too far

It’s all I care about And I found it’s all I’m here about

CHORUS Straight from the camera into my heart Lies for the answers right from the start I havn’t got time to ask what you’re here for I wont stand back and watch what I paid for

Sounds like he's singing about falling in love (at first sight) with a stripper who gives him lap dances.

The "phone box" could be one of those glass cages in night clubs. The back room is where he gets to be alone with her. He feels guilty looking at what he "paid for" because he wants to get to know her personally.

It could be that "it's all I care about" is a reference to physical attraction.

"Forging the answers" means he's filling in the blanks about her life and how she feels about him. "Wait until the last move and take it too far"... he probably tries to touch her or kiss her at the end of one of her dances. "Straight from the camera" could me "straight from the eyes".

My Interpretation

My thoughts exactly. I love how the two verses, however exactly the same, have a different meaning. A different kind of caring about.

Its all I care about And I found, it's all I'm here about

It's like the first verse, he claims he's only there for the strip club-thing, and in the second verse he can no longer deny his feelings. He want to get to know her. It also changes the meaning of

I haven't got time to ask what you're here for I wont stand back and watch what I paid for

I adore this band.

I have a different spin on the lyrics though. Here is my interpretation:

Girl in the phone-box Into my home Right from the first start Into my bones I haven’t got time You ask What you here for? Take me to the back room And lock the door

It’s all I care about And I found It’s all I hear about

I can’t figure out what I wanna wait for I forged all the answers And now I want more I wanna step back and watch What I paid for Wait until the mask’s off And take it too far

Its all I care about And I found Its all I hear about

Straight from the camera Into my heart Let's forge the answers Right from the start I haven’t got time You ask What you here for? I wanna step back and watch What I paid for

I could be wrong, but that's my interpretation!
