The Promise Lyrics
1,2,3,4!
Everything he does better
Than anything ordinary.
Everything he wants he gets,
Cos everything he does
Is kinda necessary.
Though I believe in love, tell me
Can anything last forever?
If life can live up to love,
Then hand on my heart
I’m never saying never.
Chorus:
Cos,
You’re gonna make me, make me love you.
Nothing at all, nothing that I do.
The promise I made, the promise I made
Is starting to fade, starting to fade, Babe.
You’re gonna make me, make me love you.
Nothing at all that I cannot do.
The promise I made, the promise I made,
Is starting to fade, starting to fade.
Maybe next time I’ll take a ride on by
When I feel you near.
Cos I can’t play this like I’m meant to now.
My Aladdin’s lamp is down and I got a fear,
Oh baby right here.
Giving up just looking into windows,
I've had enough of wishing I'd found you, baby don't you know,
I've had as much as I can take of falling, yeah.
I got a lot to learn ‘bout riding through.
Chorus
Here I am, walking Primrose,
Wondering when I'm gonna see you again.
So here I am, walking Primrose,
Wondering when I'm gonna see you again.
Got my hands all ready to touch your soul,
I'm gonna get the energy to wire me close to you.
Got my eyes on the prize I see,
Are you watching me baby.
Cos my heart is turning to solid gold,
And my head is saying honey too good to be true.
But one look in your glittered eyes,
Power's failing me every time.
Chorus
Maybe it’s not that hard to know you,
Maybe we’ll make it up and go,
Maybe we’ll work things out,
There’s only one way up and one way down I know.
If you wanna convince me, start again.
If you wanna be with me in my arms.
Chorus

Granted its a catchy tune, so long as I dont have to hear that first verse, the lyrics irritate me, they just dont make sense..
I wasn't too keen on this at first, but the more I listen to it, the more I love it. The lyrics are a bit..eh, but GA aren't renowned for their poignant songs, are they? Fantastic pop song nonetheless.
i agree with the post ^^^ at first i didnt like it but now its always in my head.
Yeah that's the thing about Girls Aloud, they're choruses are catchy, the verses are forgetable and the lyrics make little sense. 'Walking Primrose'? what's that about? ^.^
"It's not a thing, it's an action. Walking Primrose means walking through Primrose Hill (a suburb in London)."

was wondering if anyone knew who wrote the song/when it was wrote as the lyrics seem to fit particularly well with ashley cole cheating on cherly cole ordeal. absolutely adore this song and especially the video...very dreamgirls..gorgeous dresses too
I dont know for sure but i think it might of been written after the whole ashley cheating thing so it could be about it. cuz didnt Cheryl once say that if he cheated she would leave ( that could have been her promise) but she loves him too much to leave him (soo the promise she made ... is starting to fade) lol.

I heard the song was about someone falling in love uncontrolably when they dont want to. even though they made a promise to themselves that they wouldnt theres nothing they can do to stop it.
From the singles boxset: It was decided that the band were no ready to pull off the definitive girlgroup look- that of The Supremes in the 1960s- and that a slightly 60s sounding sound would complement the look. One day two young Australian musicians at Xenomania, Jason and Kieran, played the backing track to Brian Higgins, and The Promise was born. Brian and Miranda Cooper didn't write anything to the backing track for a few weeks- they waited until the right time so they didn't ruin the moment. Eventually the right time was a sunny summer Thursday. They wrote the song in seven minutes. The day before The Promise was due to be delivered to the label the entire backing track was ditched and replayed from scratch.
I agree it is a catchy tune. I didn't even like it at first, granted that the singing is a bit mediocre
The first verse kinda makes sense once you think about it.
This guy is doing better than the old guy, which was what she was used to. She's not used to someone who buys what he wants and the things he buys are things she needs. She believes in love, but after so much heartache she wondering can love actually last as she once believed it could, and if it can, then just maybe she will let herself fall for the guy.
At least that's what I got from it. Yeah, Cheryl did mention in an interview that the song was about falling in love uncontolably. You promised you self you weren't going to fall in love again, but then as soon as you make that promise, Mr. Right comes along and charms your socks off and you're trying so hard to fight it, but you can't.
