Don't Believe in Love

I think this song is about someone who doesn't feel right in relationships, like they've become too independant and when someone really cares for them and offers them love they feel they can't accept it or they can't break the wall they've put up around them..

My interpretation is something. like this.

"I wanna go to bed with arms around me, but wake up on my own, pretend that I'm still sleeping, until you go home."

You date new people, meet new people. She doesn't sing about one person here, she sings about the strings of people you encounter during life. She wants to be protected and loved, yet can't make a connection with them (yet or ever?).

"When I don't believe in love you're to close to me, thats why you have to leave."

This verse talks about new people in her life, coming and going; she's unable to establish an emotional connection and that's why she wants them to leave. She wouldn't be singing this song to a person that she could make an emotional connection to.

Whoever is next to her at that time, if she can't believe in actual connection happening or will happen, she can't bare the thought of not being able to give as much as she would receive from a person who's fallen for her. It's a very moral thing to do, I think. It's best to wish them farewell after realizing it just can't happen.

I love Dido, her music is amazing and there's not a song I dislike. This one in particular is great. I think it's about being with that someone you love but being unable to express it 'cause love seems like a difficult thing to handle, so to be close to that person she rather have sex and dismissed that person quick.....well that's just my point of view.

I think this song is more about a commitment problem. She's not seeing a bunch of people all over the place, she is honestly giving people a chance to make her fall in love and trust. She's singing to one of those people right now.

I wouldn't doubt the scenario arose from a past relationship gone sour. We've all been there. We've loved someone with all our being and all we got in return was a slap in the face and the fear of ever loving another person ever again. And sometimes after that relationship, we find someone who honestly has best intentions for us. We are so terrified of committing ourselves completely that we would rather push them away.

The way she sings the song and a lot of the lyrics are very mournful. She sees this person she's with as someone good. She sees it. She knows completely that they would take care of her. But that little voice inside her head just keeps whispering, "Are you sure...?" So instead of giving them a chance, she's pushing them away. She's making sure she doesn't fall in love, even more so, she's telling them she isn't in love.

"If I don't believe in love Why do you care for me?" "If I don't believe in love You're too close to me."

I think she also desperately wants to fall in love and I know that feeling. When you are in love, really, really in love, everything is amazing.(That's what she's describing in the song) Everything tastes new, everything feels like you're flying, it's practically a Disney movie in real life. But...Sometimes...Sometimes love doesn't come easy. It's hard finding love for another person. And that's what she wants. This person in front of her is safe, she knows that, but she doesn't believe she loves them, they are getting too close and she needs to run and get out of it before she waists anymore of their time and ends up hurting them like she was hurt. It's just better that way.

I can really identify with this lyrics...I need and enjoy the loving game. ITs the commitments i cant stand, the trap ,the trap...

I think the song express that sometimes you feel nice but not all the time..and It´s probably a bad thing for our hearts. Women..we just need feel that our partner loves us. Sometimes when they ( guys) go away from us..we don´t understand why..Why do they care for us..if they don´t the same feeling all the time..?.. and maybe It´s the reason for when we say I don´t believe in love..eveything is much easier. Love is a difficult thing. And in the other side..we also need time to do something without them. It´s crazyest "love" but I felt in love....just one time...I´had many lovers..but just one get me feel like Dido, and I would like to be..the girl who song I don´t believe in love, but It is extrasensorial thing Love you can analyze everything but only when you feel the real love.! like the song.. nothing is possible without the love for us..Belive it´s better when you don´t believe in love Bibiana

This is a gorgeous song I love the bass in it. Very smooth an obvious masterpiece by Dido.

i think i felt the same feeling dido is singing about. if i get it right it is too much to handle the love for the man and the fear of losing him. therefore it's easier to pretend that you don't believe in love at all... you are just enjoying your time with someone, not attaching yourself to him - just not to make it hard to end. protecting yourself not to get hurt in the end, because you're pretty sure it has to be ended no matter when. But when it comes to end you don't want to feel that unbearable pain it causes. its just self-soul-protection

i agree with the 'self soul protection thing'. think this song is about someone who has been deeply hurt in the past and has become a complete love skeptic. she doesnt let anybody in because she's afraid of getting hurt.

like most, she's reached that point where she just doesnt 'believe' real love exists anymore.. if what felt so real in the past was an illusion... then how could anything now be the real thing??

after you been hurt it's far easier to push people away than to ever be vulnerable to 'that feeling' again, because the lows after it ends are far more bearable.

i love the soberness she has in her voice, she has very soothing voice dat does not cause anxiety. i loved the song wen i first heard it , i also like the sweet guitar sound in b\w. she reminds me of dolores o riordan , one of my favs
