Trying My Best to Love You Lyrics

Our love is sweeter than strings
Our love is thicker than angel wings

But still sometimes I can't believe you're real
It's just that I've got diamonds in my eyes for you

Our love is simple
Our love is crystal

But still sometimes you cannot help yourself
You step outside and hear bells ringing
For you, for you

Trying my best to love you
Trying my best to love you
Trying my best to love you
They make it so hard on us, baby
It's so hard on us, baby

I want you back my baby
I want you back in my arms
I want you back right now
They make it so hard on us, baby
It's so hard on us, baby

Trying my best to love you
Trying my best to love you
Trying my best to love you
They make it so hard on us, baby
It's so hard on us, baby
It's so hard on us, baby
It's so hard on us, baby

This song is so simple. I'm pretty obsessed with it. It's so stripped down, and it just lets her voice speak for itself. So beautiful.

This is an amazing song. Pretty self explanatory; simply, but amazing.

This song reminds me of John Lennon's "Oh My Love". Their descriptions of their ideal love focus on simplicity lyrically and musically. I think Lennon's song was better, but I still think it's cool how brilliant artists can come to similar conclusions on abstract subjects like love.

I think she's talking about God, not a lover. Many of her songs show her stuggle with religion.

The line "But still sometimes I can't believe you're real" makes it pretty obvious, as does "You step outside and hear bells ringing/For you, for you". Church bells ringing?

I'm not sure who "they" is, though. Who's preventing her from loving god? I was thinking maybe she means people who are religious but immoral and rub jesus in her face. She's sung about that before. Or maybe it represents people who are just bad people and she wonders how god could let them exist.

Jenny is well known for being an athiest.

This song is so magnificent. It's made better by the fact by Zooey Deschanel is in it too.

Well if your right concretedreams it's kind of weird that she calls God baby. I just watched her sing it in concert! It was way more amazing then it even is on the record! I could not stop myself from tearing up. it's BEAUTIFUL.

Oops i forgot to add i think the bells ringing is referring to wedding and bells, and when she says sometimes i can't believe your real, she is just saying she loves this person so much she can't believe they actually exist.

i dont think the bells refers to weddings, i think its just like when people talk about fireworks or music when they kiss someone, its a reference to that grand explosion of love inside oneself.
